     Mark F. Rathfon Mark F. Rathfon, 64, of Clarion passed away at Penn Highland Dubois Hospital on Sunday, June 20, 2021. Born April 1, 1957, he was the son of Calvin and Mary Jane Obenreder Rathfon of Leeper. He married his best friend, Sheila Carroll in August 1977. He graduated in 1975 from North Clarion High School. Mark proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Missile Security Squadron Sergeant for four years at Minot Air Force base in North Dakota. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, he became a loyal member of the American Legion Craig E. Fleming Post 66. Mark worked in the golf industry for a number of years making many good friends wherever he went. His passions were family first, golf and loved challenging anyone to music or movie trivia. He was a faithful follower of his two favorite teams, the Miami Dolphins and the Louisville Cardinals. Mark was a founding member of the Wood Duck Hollows Ducks Unlimited Chapter and he looked forward to their banquets for over 27 years. Surviving in addition to his wife, Sheila, is his son Ben Rathfon and his wife, Brandice and their new baby Fiona, of Pittsburgh. Also surviving is his brother, Rick Rathfon and his wife Susan, of Shippenville, as well as a number of very special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his in laws, Charles and Margaret Carroll, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, Brian, his sister, Elaine Kline, and his nephew, Scott Kline. Just recently his oldest brother, Stanley R. Rathfon passed away. Interment will follow at St. Marys Cemetery.2 He was buried at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Crown, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.2 He was born on April 1, 1957.2 He married Sheila Carroll in August, 1977.2 Mark F. Rathfon died on March 20, 2021 at DuBois, Clearfield Co., Pennsylvania, at age 63.2

Huling, circa 1940.1,2 Josephine A. Kurtzhals died on November 27, 2012 at Bruin, Butler Co., Pennsylvania, at age 91.4,2 She Josephine A. Rathfon, 91, of Bruin passed away at 1:30 p.m. Monday at her home of natural causes. Born in Tylersburg, Clarion County, on April 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George and Blanche Slater Kurtzhals. She was a longtime, devoted member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church at Parker where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and served as Eucharistic minister. Following the closing of the church at Parker, she became a member of St. Patrick Parish of Bradys Bend. With a passion for bowling that lasted into her 80s, "Jo" bowled a high average at age 82. She also began an avocation for crocheting and literally crocheted hundreds of caps for the Caps for Kids program in Butler and the surrounding counties. Josephine is survived by one daughter and her husband, Yvonne and Dominic DeBacco of Chicora; two sons, Dr. James D. (Judy) Rathfon of Butler and J. Bradley (Bonnie) Rathfon of Hermitage; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, her husband of 65 years, John Rathfon, passed away March 10, 2005; her son, Barry L. Rathfon died Jan. 24, 1993; and her son, John Henry Rathfon died Sept. 27, 2011. She also was preceded in death by four siblings, Marcella Martin, Merceded Shrum and George and Theodore Kurtzhals. Burial will be in Perryville Cemetery, near Parker. on November 29, 2012.2

Alt, on June 12, 1906 at Tylersburg, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.1,4 William Arthur Walter died on December 15, 1955 at Oil City, Venango Co., Pennsylvania, at age 71.1,2,6 He Leeper, Dec 16 - Funeral services for William A. Walter, 71, prominent Clarion County businessman and civic leader who died last night after a heart attack, will be held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday in the Leeper Methodist Church. Mr. Walter died at 9:35 p. m. in the Oil City Hospital. A son of Jacob and Sarah Mays Walter of Leeper, he was born in Farmington Township where he resided all his life. He attended county public schools, Allegheny College and Duff's Business College in Pittsburgh. Prior to entering the mercantile, lumbering and oil and gas drilling and contracting business, Mr. Walter taught school in Clarion County for two years. During World War II, he was a member of the ration board. During World War I, he was a member of the county draft registration board. Mr. Walter served as a member of the school board in the township for six years. He served as Farmington Township secretary for 12 years, four years as a county commissioner, and 13 1/2 years as chief clerk of the county commissioners. For 15 years he served as President of the Clarion County-Township Officers Association. He was a member of the Selective Service Board of Clarion County. Mr. Walter was a member of the Methodist Church of Leeper where he had been an officer or teacher in the Sunday school for over forty years; he was also member of official board for the church. In addition, he was a member of the Tylersburg Cemetery Association and Men's Club of Leeper. He was a 32nd degree Mason and held membership in the Couldersport Consistory and Blue Lodge of Clarion. Surviving are his widow, Della; one sister, former Evelyn Metzgar; four sons and daughters, Milton, Donald and Francis of Leeper, Mrs. Geraldine Troke of Sharon, and Mrs. Charlotte Wolfe of Corry; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body is in the family home. Services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday in the Leeper Methodist Church with Rev. Dwight Montgomery officiating. The body will lie in state in the church from 1 p. m. to time of service. Interment will follow in the Tylersburg Cemetery. on December 17, 1955.2

     Francis Gilbert "Jake" Walter Francis G. "Jake" Walter, 81, of Leeper, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in Clarion Hospital. Born Sept. 28, 1914, in Leeper, he was a son of William A. and Della Huling Walter. During World War II, Mr. Walter served in the U. S. Marine Corps with the third Marine Division in the Pacific Theater. He retired in 1977 from the park foreman position at Cook Forest State Park. Mr. Walter enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a North Carolina basketball fan. He was married in New York July 1, 1935, to Julia Hirst Bostaph, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William (Judy) Fitzgerald of Leeper and Mrs. Ron (Diane) Schrecengost of Corry; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Walter was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton Walter and Donald Walter; two sisters, Charlotte Wolfe and Geraldine Troke; and a great-granddaughter, Heather Colleen. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Borland Funeral Home in Leeper. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Good Shepherd United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Harry, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Tylersburg Cemetery.
