The body was taken to the Simpson funeral home. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Lore, Mrs. Bertha Hays and Mrs. Girta Hoffman, and a son, T. E. Poff. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Dry Branch Nazarene church. The Rev. Claude Bailey will officiate. on April 19, 1937.5

He was a retired employee of Carbide in South Charleston and was a lifelong resident of Davis Creek. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Surviving are his widow, Bertha; a son, Edward R. of Charleston; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Goldsberry of St. Albans, Mrs. John McCallister of Charleston and Miss Inez Hayes at home; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Brendel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; Mrs. Elsie Walker of South Charleston and Mrs. Carl Keeny of Charleston, 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The accident report came as Kanawha Valley residents dug out from 8 to 10 inches of snow which fell Sunday and Monday. The mercury dipped to 13 degrees this morning in Charleston and while the National Weather Service at Kanawha Airport predicted no additional accumulation, a spokesman did say there "would not be any major temperature increase in the area for the next few days." State police said Hayes of Davis Creek was dead on arrival last night at Thomas Memorial Hospital. Troopers said he had-been shoveling snow and fell off a bridge near his home and fell into the icy water. His death was related to the storm. No autopsy was scheduled. Hayes was a retired employee of Union Carbide at the Institute plant with 19 years of service, a member of the Church of God at Davis Creek, and a lifelong resident of Kanawha County. Surviving: wife, Etta; son, James Edward Hayes of Hampton, Va; daughters, Mrs. Esther Songer of Titusville, Fla., Mrs. Mary Pauley of Ruth, Miss Savah Etta Hayes at home; mother, Mrs. Bertha Poff Hayes of St. Albans; sisters, Miss Inez Hayes of St. Albans, Mrs. Dalcus McCallister of Charleston, Mrs. Ruth Goldsbury of St. Albans.
