He was a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth; his mother, Mrs. Mae Hendrix of Mesa; and a brother out of state. Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Church of the Saviour, American Baptist, East Broadway at South Hall. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. on May 5, 1972.6

     Sharon Riffe DECATUR, Ga. - Sharon Riffe Hartley, 51, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, in a Georgia hospital following a long illness. Born Sept. 19, 1947, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Willard P. and Ethel Henderson Riffe Sr. Mrs. Hartley spent her childhood in Crab Orchard and was a 1965 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She was a practical nurse in Georgia and a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Willard P. Riffe Jr. Survivors include a brother, Gene Riffe and his wife, Helen, of Crab Orchard; a sister, Shirley Brumfield and her husband, Darrell G., of Cameron, N.C; a sister-in-law, Edith Jane Riffe of Beckley; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Garrison was born on October 14, 1940 at Giles Co., Tennessee.1,2 She died on November 30, 2008 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 68.1,2 She Sallie Garrison Shrewsbury, of 1518 Harper Road, Beckley, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at the Lucy Bowers Hospice House. The daughter of Arthur Clarence Garrison and Velma Holland Garrison, she was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Giles County, Tenn. She attended Middle Tennessee State University and earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Western Kentucky State University in Bowling Green. She taught business courses in the Kentucky school system for 17 years. Sallie and her husband retired to Raleigh County in 2000. Her gracious hospitality was showcased for several years as they owned and operated the popular Merritt House Bed and Breakfast in Beckley. An active member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church, Sallie's outstanding service as a kitchen hostess, planning and preparing meals, was a special gift to the congregation and guests alike. She is survived by her husband Rondal B. brother Arthur Clarence Garrison Jr. (Buster) of Elkton, Tenn; a daughter Cynthia Rae Hammers Prigge and her husband Thomas of Cologne, Germany; a daughter Stephanie Kaye Hammers Vandeveer of Louisville, Ky; and two young granddaughters, Rebecca Prigge and Sydney Vandeveer. She is also survived by a cherished golden retriever "Sam Boy." Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Melton Mortuary and one hour before the service Wednesday at Melton Mortuary. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, in the Melton Mortuary Chapel, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley, with Rev. Adrian Pratt and Rev. Robert Debnam officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews Keith Garrison and Kevin Garrison, Bill Riffe, Butch Riffe, Joseph McGhee, and Anthony Mazelon. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Lewis Fox, Mr. Thomas Keyser, Mr. Robert Sayre, Mr. Charles Hardcastle, and Mr. Warren Thornhill. on December 2, 2008.1
