She was united in marriage to Marvin Hurst Sr. on February 19, 1944. Mr. Hurst preceded her in death on February 20, 1986. Mrs. Hurst was a sales clerk for Browder Shoe Store, Smith & Hunter Drugs and worked for Reggies' Steak House. She attended Bethesda Presbyterian Church for over 40 years, she had previously lived in Ansted, West Virginia and was a member of the Ansted Baptist Church. Shirley was totally dedicated to her children and grandchildren and enjoyed traveling with her sister and best friend, Ginny. Survivors include; three children, Toni Tendam of Raleigh, NC, Kathi (Mark) Williams of Lexington and Robert (Kendra) Palmer of Lexington; three grandchildren, Matthew Tendam, Lauren Williams and Malcolm Palmer; and one brother.
