He was in his 86th year. Born August 25, 1922, at Matoaka, Mason was one of seven children born to the late Jacob Woodyard and Cora Lee Jennings Meadows. A sister, Lois, also preceded him in death. Mr. Meadows spent his childhood at Stephenson. He entered the U.S. Army at the age of 20 serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. An electrical foreman in the mines, he retired from Itmann Coal Company, an affiliate of Pocahontas Fuel. He had over 40 years of service in the mining industry. A longtime resident of Mullens, he has resided in Beckley since 1973, where he was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church. He taught the Beacon Sunday School Class for 19 years and the Disciple Sunday School Class for five years. In addition to his parents and sister, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Vest Meadows. Mason is the beloved husband of Paulette Meadows; the dear father of Sandra Hathaway and her husband Rev. Dr. Skip Hathaway of Yorktown, Va; the fond stepfather of Christine Miller and her husband Edward of St. Louis, Mo; the doting grandfather of Rev. Sonny Hathaway and his wife Christina and their children, Mason Samuel, Mitchell Joseph, and Peyton James Hathaway; and Katherine Mills Miller and John Edward Miller; the brother of Alma Thornton of Welch; Clifton Meadows of Mullens; Gloria Gay Payne of Beckley; Nawasa Falvo of Roderfield; and Charlotte Johnson of Amigo; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Pastor Paul Blizard and Dr. Charles Bright officiating. Committal services will be at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of the Wildwood Mausoleum in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Burial will follow in the Masonic Section of the cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the mortuary. Military Rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Association. For more than 89 years, Glen Phillips lived a life that left an impression on everyone he touched. He came from humble beginnings on a small farm in Saulsville, W.Va., where he was the second born of Lacy and Susie's eight children. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Although he is preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, they journeyed through life together for over 58 years. He was employed by Columbia Gas of WV for more than 30 years and was blessed to enjoy more than 30 years of retirement. A lifelong member of the Friendship Old Regular Baptist Church in Saulsville, he loved his Lord and lived a life that exemplified his faith. He will be missed beyond measure by his family and friends and by his daughters and son – Pam Healy (Brian) of Charleston, Joan Duffey (Bill) of Millwood, Debbie Grubb (Doug) of Cardington, Ohio, and David Phillips of Buckhannon. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren are blessed with many memories of a soft-spoken grandfather who cherished them. Although quiet by nature, he was an incredibly kind and genuine man who made people smile. Every day that he was able, he visited his extended family at Shoney's and his family would like to thank Amy, Anne, Kathy and everyone at Shoney's for their care and concern. We would also like to thank Cliff for his friendship over the last year and a half and Dr. Jack Kinder and his staff for invaluable guidance. The family will celebrate Glen's life on Thursday, January 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens and Grass Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 31st, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. on January 31, 2014.6

He was employed by Raleigh Wyoming Mining Co. and U.S. Steel from 1947 to 1957. For the next 20 years, he was a sales and service representative for Lee Norse, Beckley, where his contributions played an integral role in the improvements of the continuous miner. He was a business partner with Phillips Machine Service, serving as vice president of sales. Within the coal industry, he was well known and respected for his contributions and knowledge. After leaving Philips Machine Service, he worked as a realtor with Century 21 and Reed-Patton Realty until his retirement. Mr. Phillips belonged to the Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce. He served as Sunday school superintendent at Coal Marsh Baptist Church while living in Glen Daniel. He has belonged to Maxwell Hill Baptist Church, Shady Spring Baptist Church serving as a deacon, and First Baptist Church, Beckley. He most recently was a member of Calloway Heights Baptist Church. He was an active member of the Beckley Masonic Lodge 95 and Gideons International. He was inducted into the Glen Rogers High School Hall of Fame on June 1, 1986, in celebration of his accomplishments as a local businessman.
