Moomaw; grandson, Blake Anthony Davis; sister, "Bett" Carol Long and husband, Geary; half sisters, Lorna L. Martin and husband Doug, Tonya L. Hodges and husband Darryl; and several aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins along with many good friends and his church family who will miss him so very much. Bruce had worked for Kustom Cards and Affordable Commission Realtors which he really enjoyed until his health failed. There will be a Funeral Service on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth P. Lane Jr. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Simpsons in Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Helping Hands at Trinity Lutheran Church. Everyone is encouraged to bring a colorful helium balloon to release after the service in Bruce's memory. He brought everyone so much joy on earth, we can send our thanks to him in Heaven. on December 27, 2013.2

Winfred King, 87, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Winfred was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Fayette County, W.Va., to the late Ralph and Vernie Marshall King. He joined the Marines in 1943 and participated in action on Okinawa in 1945. After discharge in 1946 from the Marines, he married his hometown sweetheart Joyce in 1947 and joined the Army's 82nd Airborne Division. He served in Korea and the Dominican Republic and retired from the 18th Airborne Corps in 1967. After retiring from the Army, he went to work for Fayetteville Technical Community College and retired from there as the financial aid director in 1989. Winfred loved God, his country and his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Joyce King of the home; son, John L. King and his wife, Deva, of Clayton; two daughters, Connie King Peebles and her husband, Pete, of Fayetteville and Cheryl King-Vallejo of Grosse Point, Mich; two grandchildren, Chris L. Peebles of Fayetteville and Catherine J. Vallejo of Grosse Point; a great-grandchild, Elizabeth Peebles of Fayetteville; a sister, Betty Gallihugh of Anderson, S.C; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation for the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at LaFayette Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fayetteville. Graveside services with full military honors will be at noon Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, with the Rev. Archie Barringer officiating. Arrangements for the family are in the care of LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304. on January 13, 2013.4

Joel Morgan King Joel Morgan King, 81, affectionately known as Fudge, of Ripley, passed away, Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston. He was a loving husband to his wife of 62 years, Phyllis. He was born on September 1, 1931, in Fayetteville, to the late Ralph King and Vernia Marshall King. Fudge was raised in Fayetteville and was a graduate of Fayetteville High School. He resided in Ripley for 56 years and was employed at Kaiser Aluminum for 37 years. He was also a member of the United Steel Workers of America. Fudge was happiest spending time with his family and cheering on the Mountaineers. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he is survived by his children that he loved and devoted his life to, Michael King of Bedford, Ohio, Timothy King, and his wife Kathie, of Ripley, Mark King and his wife, Kris, of Burkburnett, Texas and Angela Birthisel and her husband, Jamie, of Hockley, Texas; grandchildren, Joey and Erin Hunter of Teays Valley, Adam, Casey, Brooks and Cooper King, of Bridgeport, Drew and Lindsey Birthisel of Cypress, Texas, Chase Birthisel of San Marcos, Texas, Trevor King and Allyn King, of Ripley, and Emily King of Burkburnett, Texas; his sister, Betty Gollihugh, of Anderson, South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, cousins. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Benji. Fudge was preceded in death by his siblings, Wilbur, Maynard, Thomas, Maurice, and Linda King, as well as his previously mentioned parents. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Bradley Family Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 129, 252 Ferrell Drive, Peytona, WV 25154. Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Ravenswood, with Rev. Mark Gerstell officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Sydney Ciel Davis Sydney Ciel Davis Garten, 93, retired realtor agent and teacher and resident of Maury County, died Friday, February 1, 2019 at The Bridge at Columbia. Funeral Services for Mrs. Garten will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Paul Bauer officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. Born February 13, 1925 in Corinth, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Sydney Leonard Davis and Frances Conn Davis. In 1946, Sydney married her late husband, Dr. Norris Garten who preceded her in death in 1973. Sydney attended Mississippi State College for Women where she earned her bachelor’s degree, and was a member of the Kappa Pi Art Fraternity and the Kappa Delta sorority. Sydney spent 33 years teaching in various locations such as West Virginia, Maryland, and Tennessee. While teaching in Tennessee she earned her master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. After retiring from teaching, Sydney became a member of The Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed gardening, was a member of the Columbia Garden Club, and was also an avid bridge player. Sydney was a long time member of the First Presbyterian of Columbia. She is survived by her sons, Retired Lt. Co. David N. (Maggie) Garten of Clifton, VA and Joseph S. (Sherri) Garten of Columbia, TN; grandchildren, Stacy Renee Garten of Luray, VA, Derek (Amy) Noel Garten of Nashville, TN, Michael Norris Garten of Brooklyn, NY; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will include Frank Dale, Bill Holloway, Dalton Mounger, Dr. Jerry Hendrickson, John Satterwhite, Jr., and Jack Baxter. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Houston Jameson and staff, and her many bridge partners.
