Mrs. Thrash was a lifelong Arlington resident and was a member of an Arlington pioneer family. Goodman Elementary School in Arlington was named in honor of her sister, Ethel Goodman. Mrs. Thrash contributed more than 6,000 hours of service as an auxiliary volunteer at Arlington Memorial Hospital. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Arlington. Don was born and raised by his parents, Doodle and Thelma Louise Umphress Thrash, in Granbury. He had one brother, Melvin, and a sister, Patsy Lavern. His legacy consists of a long line of many great Thrashes and Umphresses who helped establish the town of Granbury in the 1800s and 1900s. His professional life encompassed much, but it was his personal life that inevitably took him abroad. He served in the Special Operations Division of the U.S. Army during World War II and then re-enlisted during the Korean War. He moved to San Antonio in the 1960s and was a resident of Alamo Heights for more than 40 years. During his later years, he loved going fishing with his close friends, playing dominoes with his buddies on the Austin Highway, researching the historical origins of his family and living the "cowboy" way of life. He embraced life with a passion and touched many people's lives; Don lived a good and fulfilling life. He will be greatly missed. A special thank-you to the pastor and congregation of Sunset Ridge Church of Christ in San Antonio for all of your prayers. She attended high school in Granbury and in 1913 graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown with a degree in music. She married Isaac Newsome Dougherty on June 24, 1914 in Granbury, Texas; he passed away February 16, 1920. On September 17, 1921, she married J. Norman McArdle in Dallas, Texas and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1949. Mrs. McArdle was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the North Texas Conference Women's Society. She was a farmer and a rancher for many years and was active in the Gainesville Community Circus and a lifetime member of the Gainesville Riding Club. She is survived by her longtime friend Cleveland Dennis and a host of other friends. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the George J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville. Rev. Jim Dorff and Rev. Frank Lorne will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Frank M. Aldridge III, James Godwin Aldridge, Kenneth Kaden, Walter Dennis, William C.      Walter Thrash Walter Thrash, 80, a native of the Hominy section, died Dec. 19 in St. Paul's Hospital in British Columbia, Canada. Funeral services and burial were held in Vancouver, British Columbia. Thrash was the son of Dr. George H. Thrash Sr., a physician during the Civil War who practiced in the Hominy section until his death. His mother was Elvira Penland Thrash. Thrash left this section in 1898 and was an attorney in Washington state and later in British Columbia. Survivors include two cousins, R. L. Thrash and Ottis Green Sr. of Asheville.³ He was born on August 5, 1874 at North Carolina.⁵ He married Florence Pressey on June 4, 1900 at Boistfort, Lewis Co., Washington.² Walter Thrash died on December 19, 1954 at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, at age 80.³
