     George Washington McCune was buried at Reed Walker McCune Cemetery, Procious, Clay Co., West Virginia.⁴ He George W. McCune is clerk of the Circuit Court for Clay County, and in his home village of Clay, the judicial center of the county, he is secretary of the board of directors of the Elk Valley Bank, in which he is a stockholder and a director, and he is also secretary of the Board of Education of the Henry District, in which Clay is included. He is the owner of a tract of fourteen acres of land just outside the corporate village limits, and on this place is his attractive residence. Mr. McCune is a stanch republican, and has been active in the local councils of the party. He served as deputy circuit clerk of Clay County for six years, and was then elected circuit clerk, of which office he has been the incumbent since January 1, 1920. He is affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Modern Woodmen of America, and he and his wife are active members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. George W. McCune was born in Roane County, West Virginia, March 9, 1876, and is a son of William H. and Mary J. (Reed) McCune, both natives of Kanawha County, where the former was born in 1844 and the latter in 1848. William H. McCune was a soldier of the Union in the Civil war, held the office of orderly sergeant, took part in many engagements and was twice wounded. After the war he continued his activities as a farmer in Roane County until 1877, when he removed with his family to Clay County, where he and his wife passed the remainder of their lives, he having been one of the substantial farmers and highly honored citizens of this county. He was a republican in politics, and he and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Of their nine children eight are mentioned: Harrison is a prosperous farmer in Clay County; Jane is the wife of Henry Holcomb; Grant is numbered among the progressive farmers of Clay County; George W., of this sketch, was next in order of birth; Nancy is the wife of Henry Keller; Lucy died at the age of eighteen years; Patrick C. is a merchant at Clay; and Benjamin, who now holds a clerical position in the postoffice in the City of Charleston was in service with the American Expeditionary Forces in Prance in the World war, and took part in much of the terrific conflict that finally won victory for the allies. George W. McCune was reared on the home farm in Clay County, and that he profited by the advantages afforded in the public schools is attested by the statement that for twenty years he was a successful and popular teacher in the schools of this part of the state, within which period he served as district superintendent of the schools of the Henry District. Mr. McCune wedded Miss Martha E. Dodd, and to this union have been born nine children: Ada is the wife of Curtis Davis; Howard is employed in the general store of the Elk River Lumber Company; Edith is the wife of John Davis; Alice is the wife of Ervin Moore; and Vernie, Earl C., William, Kathleen and Blanche are the younger members of the parental home circle.⁵ He was born on March 9, 1876 at Roane Co., West Virginia; His WWI Draft Registration card has a birth date of Mar 9, 1875.^2,6,5 He married Martha Evelyn Dodd, daughter of William Remly Dodd and Hannah Caroline Paxton, on September 1, 1895 at Roane Co., West Virginia.^1,5,7,8,9,10 George Washington McCune died on September 30, 1932 at Henry, Clay Co., West Virginia, at age 56; His gravestone has a death year of 1931.^6,4

     Ada Alpha McCune was buried at Davis Cemetery, Blue Knob, Clay Co., West Virginia.^9,3 She was born on July 19, 1896 at Clay Co., West Virginia.^4,10,8,3 As of November 16, 1914,her married name was Davis.¹⁰ She married Henry Curtis "Curt" Davis on November 16, 1914 at Clay Co., West Virginia.^11,12,10 Ada Alpha McCune died on June 18, 1970 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 73.³

Surviving: sons, Don of Clay, Hubert of Nitro; daughter, Mrs. Ethel Moore of Akron, Ohio; brother, William McCune of Washington, D.C; sisters, Mrs. Virginia Miller, Mrs. Blanche Zeno, and Mrs. Katherine Schofield of Akron. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Blue Knob. on August 27, 1976.⁷

     Howard Russell McCune was buried at Gray Cemetery, Harrison Co., West Virginia.^3,4 He was born on May 2, 1897 at Clay Co., West Virginia; His gravestone has a birth year of 1900.^8,4 He married Iva May "Ivy" Taylor on September 27, 1919 at Swandale, Clay Co., West Virginia.^9,10,11 Howard Russell McCune died on May 2, 1958 at Gassaway, Braxton Co., West Virginia, at age 61.^3,4 He Howard Russell McCune, a disabled miner of Harrison, Clay County, died in a Gassaway hospital Friday on his 58th birthday. He was a member of Valley Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. McCune also was a member of Strange Creek Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Charleston. Surviving arc his wife Ivy; six daughters, Mrs. Lucille Sattler and Mrs. Janet Canfield of Harrison; Mrs. Geneva Gill, Mrs. Evelyn Eskridge, Mrs. Doris Johnson and Mrs. Iris Backus, all of Ohio; three sons, Harold of Duck, Earl of Clay, and Charles of Harrison; six sisters, Mrs. Ada Davis of Elkhurst, Mrs. Alice Moore of Spencer, Mrs. Sylvia Nester of Washington, Pa., Mrs. Kathryn Schoolfield and Mrs. Blanch Zeno of Ohio, and Virginia McCune of Connecticut; two brothers, William in the Army in Germany and Earl of Meadow Bridge, and 24 grandchildren. Burial will be in Gray Cemetery at Harrison with Masonic graveside rites. on May 3, 1958.³

     Edith Lee McCune was buried at Davis Cemetery, Blue Knob, Clay Co., West Virginia.^6,7 She was born on July 30, 1904 at Clay Co., West Virginia.^4,8 As of June 27, 1920,her married name was Davis.^2,4,8 She married John Edward Davis on June 27, 1920 at Clay, Clay Co., West Virginia.^2,4,8,6 Edith Lee McCune died on October 5, 1941 at Clay, Clay Co., West Virginia, at age 37.⁶ She Mrs. Edith Davis, 38, wife of John Davis of Clay, died Sunday night at their home. Burial will be in the Davis cemetery on Blue knob. Surviving, besides the husband, are five sons, Garrett Davis of Belle; Carl, Glenn, Jack and Harry Davis of Clay; three daughters, Juanita, Helen and a two-day-old infant; her mother, Mrs. Martha McCune of Clay; six sisters, Mrs. Addie Davis of Elkhurst, Mrs. Alice Moore of Spencer, Sylvia of Fairmont, Blanche of Clay, Mrs. Kathleen Schoolfield of Akron, O., and Mrs. Virginia Mullins of Swandale, and three brothers, Howard McCune of Harrison, Earl McCune of Clay and William McCune of the U.S. army. Pallbearers will be Harry Davis, Holly Davis. Russell Davis, William Davis, Harold Davis and Dodd Neal. on October 7, 1941.⁶

State police said McCune died 1444 Sixth Ave., died Wednesday of a self inflicted gunshot wound. He was shot once in the head by a .22 caliber rifle. Surviving are his wife, Tisha: five sons, Earl Jr. of Belle, Gordon of Gallagher, George, Allen and Jimmy, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Lathers and Mrs. Nancy Zurke of Ypsianti, Mich., and Mrs. Patty Kroah of Germany; six sisters, Ada of Elkhurst, Alice of Spencer, Sylvia of Washington Pa., Blanche and Kathryn of Akron, Ohio, and Virginia of Oregon; a brother, William, with the U.S. Army. on September 21, 1961.²

     Katherine Mae "Kay" McCune was buried at Hillside Memorial Park, 1025 Canton Road, Akron, Summit Co., Ohio.^3,12 Her Social Security Number was 272-28-0152.¹³ She was born on July 31, 1917 at Clay Co., West Virginia.^1,13,14 As of July 6, 1935,her married name was Scofield.³ She married Cosmo "Scafido" Scofield on July 6, 1935 at Procious, Clay Co., West Virginia.^3,4 Katherine Mae "Kay" McCune died on April 2, 1999 at Akron, Summit Co., Ohio, at age 81.^13,14,3 She Katherine M. "Kay" Scofield (McCune), 81, of Akron, died April 2, 1999. Born in Clay County, W. Va., she lived in the Akron area most of her life. She retired from the Saalfield Publishing Co. after 17 years of service. Preceded in death by husband, Cosmo (Scafido) Scofield, she is survived by sons, Robert W. (Roseann) Scofield of Akron, Donald L. (Ginerva) Scofield of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Lawrence J. (Nancy) Scofield of Tampa, Fla; daughters, Nancy (Robert) Rankin of Ashland, Ohio, and Denise (Dennis) Eldridge of Vandalia, Ohio; sister, Blanche Zeno of Akron; grandchildren, Donald L. Scofield Jr., Robin L. (David) Watson, Robert S. (Tina) Scofield, Randall W. (Pamela) Scofield, Ronald J. Scofield, John (Michelle) Rankin, Marc (Tracy) Rankin, Heather (Matt) Werd, Holly Scofield, and Brittany Eldridge; great-grandchildren, Christopher Watson, Steven, Brianna, Patrick, Spencer, Randall II, and Candice Scofield, Emily, Joshua, Jacob, Mason, and Jaret Rankin; and many other relatives and friends. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. on April 4, 1999.³

     Her married name was Nester.⁵ Sylvia Ann McCune was buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Washington, Washington Co., Pennsylvania.^5,4 She married Natale D. "Nat" Nester.⁵ Sylvia Ann McCune was born on September 8, 1916 at Clay Co., West Virginia.⁴ As of April 8, 1939,her married name was Forte.³ She married Anthony Joseph Forte on April 8, 1939 at Wallback, Clay Co., West Virginia.³ Sylvia Ann McCune died on July 25, 1965 at Washington, Washington Co., Pennsylvania, at age 48.⁴

     Her Social Security Number was 049-18-5629.¹¹ Blanche Ruth McCune was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron, Summit Co., Ohio.^3,12 She was born on April 19, 1919 at Clay Co., West Virginia.^3,11 As of April 27, 1946,her married name was Zeno.⁷ She married Anthony "Tony'' Zeno on April 27, 1946 at Summit Co., Ohio.^3,7 Blanche Ruth McCune died on August 13, 2004 at Copley, Summit Co., Ohio, at age 85.^11,3 She Blanche Ruth Zeno, born April 19, 1919, passed away at the Hospice Care Center on Aug. 13, 2004. Blanche was the 10th of 11 children born to the late George Washington McCune and Martha Dodd. Following graduation from high school in Clay, W. Va., Blanche moved to Akron to work at Goodyear Tire & Rubber's postal department. She met and married the love of her life, Anthony "Tony'' Zeno, to whom she was married for 48 years before his passing away in 1994. Blanche's last months at Hospice Care Center in Copley were spent reminiscing about family, her husband and her home, and family reunion picnics in Ashland, Ohio, with her many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Katherine (Kay) Scofield and Virginia Miller, and nephew, Robert Scofield. She is survived by her nephew, Larry (Nancy) Scofield of Tampa, Fla., Don (Generva) Scofield of Pittsburgh, Pa; nieces, Nancy (Robert) Rankin of Ashland, Ohio, Denise Eldridge of Dayton, Betty J. Rogers of Medina and Cathy (Larry) Wood of Akron; sisters-in-law, Margaret Thomas and Addie Johnson of Cuyahoga Falls; and a host of friends and neighbors. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family would like to thank the caring doctors, nurses and staff at Akron General Medical Center and to the wonderful nurses, aides, and staff at the Hospice Care Center. on August 15, 2004.³
