     Dovie Vernal Parks Dovie Parks Starcher, 88, of Charleston, passed away on January 21, 2019. Dovie was a generous, loving lady with family, friends and strangers. She worked in private health care well into her 80’s and never lost her great sense of humor or keen intelligence no matter what obstacles life put in her way. Dovie served several terms in the silver haired legislature. She loved all living creatures, was an avid collector of dolls and all things beautiful. Never a day without a laugh, she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Starcher, Jr; mother, Dallas Parks; father, Lannie Parks; brothers, Lawrence Parks, Owen Parks and Red Hanshaw. Dovie is survived by her sons, Kenneth Starcher (Gina) and Bruce Starcher; daughter, Kristy “Cookie” Elliott (Frank); grandchildren, Alan and Scott Starcher and Michelle Adkins, Kenn II and Ben Starcher; numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.7 She was buried at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.7 She was born on November 4, 1930 at Procious, Clay Co., West Virginia.4 As of December 29, 1949,her married name was Starcher.4 She married Delbert Starcher Jr. on December 29, 1949 at Wellford, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.3,4,7 Dovie Vernal Parks died on January 21, 2019 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 88.7

He was the son of the late Delbert and Eva Daily Abbott Starcher. Jr. was an avid farmer, sportsman, husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was in the Army European theater and occupation after WWII. He was an employee of E. I. DuPont De Nemours with 14 years of service, Union Concrete Pipe, Belle, for 16 years and Amherst Industries Malden with 16 years of service. He is survived by wife of 55 years, Dovie Parks Starcher; sons, Bruce A. Starcher of Walton and Kenneth Ray Starcher of Elkview; daughter, Brenda "Cookie" Starcher Elliott of Richland Hills, Texas; sisters, Nina Luke of Indianapolis, Ind., and Joann Kirchoger of Spencer, Ind; grandchildren, Allen Dale Starcher, Richard Scott Starcher, Michelle Dawn Isabelle, Kenneth Ray Starcher Jr. and Benjamin Michael Starcher; great grandchildren, Justin Starcher, Amber Sloan, Nathan Starcher, Philip Knopp Jr., Emma Starcher, Isah Isabelle, Iarc Isabelle, Billy Chandler, Alan Chandler and Tommy Chandler. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Sunday April 24, at Matics Funeral Home with the Rev. Buck Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney, with American Legion Post 61 Clendenin to perform graveside rites. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Matics Funeral Home Clendenin. on April 22, 2005.1

Mr. Paxton was injured in a swimming accident on Aug. 21 near Gainesville and had been in a coma since then. He moved to Gainesville eight months ago and was working at the Fieldale Corp. chicken processing plant there. In Delaware, Mr. Paxton had been a member of the Holloway Terrace Fire Company and the First Baptist Church in New Castle. He is survived by his parents, James E. Sr. and Phyllis J. Paxton of New Castle; two brothers, Robert P. of Gainesville and Roy L., at home; a sister, Barbara Diane Hatcher of Gainesville; his paternal grandmother, Martha M. Paxton of Maysel, W.Va., and his maternal grandmother, Pauline P. Davis of Rowlesburg, W.Va. Services were Aug. 27 in Gainesville. Memorial services were Aug. 29 in Clay, W.Va., with burial in Paxton Cemetery, Maysel. on September 7, 1983.2
