Hudgins graduated from Virginia Tech and worked for the state Health Department as a sanitarian. He belonged to the Stuart Lions Club, the Rotary and Floyd Country Club. He held a lifetime membership in the Patrick County Jaycees, and he belonged to the Stuart United Methodist Church. Hudgins also had served in the Navy. Surviving are five sons, Lee W. Hudgins and R.B. Hudgins III, both of Stuart, Doug Elder of Forest, John Elder of Fairfax and Robert Elder of Tampa, Fla; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Moody's Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Clyde DeLoach. Burial will be in Stuart cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Patrick County Veteran's Memorial Honor Guard. Mr. Hudgins is survived by four brothers, Lee W. Hudgins of Roanoke, John Elder of Smithfield, Robert Elder of Chicago, Illinois and Doug Elder of Lynchburg. A memorial service for Mr. Hudgins will be held Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stuart United Methodist Church with Rev. Tommy Shepherd officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
