Cletis was one of two sons of the late John D. and Edna Burnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John, Jr. Cletis was a member of the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. For approximately 40 years, Cletis, along with his brother and father operated several retail businesses in Rocky Mount; among them were Burnett 's Department Store, Burnett 's Mens' and Boys' Shop and Medoco Discount Store. Cletis was a former member of the Rocky Mount Lions Club and the Retail Merchants Association. He served in the US Army for approximately four years during World War II serving throughout Europe and Japan. Surviving are his devoted wife of 63 years, Gloria; one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Jeannette; two grandsons, Brian and wife Angela and Michale and wife Gena; two great-grandsons; sister-in law, Margie Burnett and nephew Dan and wife Carolyn. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel, 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Robert Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday with his family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, S. Main Street, Rocky Mount. on May 15, 2007.1

(Bill) Burnett, 82, of Ferrum, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at his home. He was born on January 10, 1929, to the late Stanton Luther and Cova Ross Burnett. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry M. Prillaman; two brothers, Charlie and Bob Burnett ; and a sister, Ileta Burnett Nolen. Mr. Burnett retired as President and CEO of The First National Bank of Ferrum after 43 years of service and he served on the Board of Directors for the Bank, Ferrum Lions Club, Ferrum Volunteer Fire Department and Ferrum Water and Sewage Plant for many years. He was well known in the county and was a gentle spirited man who was respected and admired by all who knew him, a man who loved his family, and always put others needs before his own. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treated them as if they were his own. He is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 61 years, Irene Hatcher Burnett; two daughters, Joan B. Prillaman and Ellen Mae Burnett, both of Ferrum; three grandchildren, Jennifer Talley (Greg), Marshall Prillaman (Trina), and Chris Prillaman (Shawn); six great-grandchildren, Anna, Tanner, Jordan, Ashley, Bridget and Laken; brother, Paul Burnette (Deniece); sister, Alice Gourley (Frank); sister-in-law, Eva Hatcher Burnett ; and numerous other family members and friends. A special thank you to his caregivers, Vanassa Ziglar, Susan Cooper and Carilion Hospice of Franklin County. He also leaves behind a very special friend, Teresa Cannaday, who has been a part of his family for 25 years. Funeral Services will be conducted from Conner- Bowman Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2011, with Elder Larry Hollandsworth, Pastor Rick Poland and the Rev. Maynard Plaster officiating. Interment will follow in the Burnett Family Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ferrum Rescue Squad or Carilion Hospice of Franklin County.
