He enjoyed collecting nautical and martial arts memorabilia. His major accomplishment was teaching and impacting the lives of those he touched. His favorite saying was “I am just me, Not a lot...just me.” Survivors include his father and stepmother, Robert and Hilga Poff of Huntsville, Ala; two sisters, Nancee Duke and husband, Gary, of Johnston City, Lonnette “Lonnie” Lindsey of Johnston City; stepbrother, Stephen Stamps of Paris, Tenn; nephew, Chris Duke of Johnston City; two nieces, Wendy Smith of Belleville, Elizabeth Lindsey of West Frankfort; two great-nephews, Thomas Duke of West Frankfort, Randy Gore of Arab, Ala; four great-nieces, Brenna Duke of West Frankfort, Avery and Campbell Smith of Belleville, Jessica Gore of Arab, Ala; two cousins, Paul Gore Jr. of Arab, Ala., Debbie Gore of Huntsville, Ala; uncle and aunt, Paul and Joyce Gore of Arab, Ala.
