Scherb’s office. She was a member of Northside Community Church. Betty sang for more than 50 years in the church choir and played in the bell choir. She also used her vocal talents in the Vigo County Extension Homemaker’s Choir. She volunteered at Union Hospital for several years. Betty is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carol Mathias and husband; Larry; grandchildren, Tricia and Tom Kixmiller, and their, son Collin Conine, Rob and Becky Wilkie, and their children, Robyn, Clint, and Mitch, and Cristy and Steve Junker, and their children Matthew, Nathan, Julia, and Zachary; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles C. Carrithers and Edna E. Carrithers-Liffick; stepfather, Everett Liffick; husband, Berlyn Jeffers; son, James E. Jeffers; sisters, Mary Pigg, Nadine Buck, Catherine Adams and Fern Starr; and a brother, Cyrus C. Carrithers. Private family graveside services will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. on June 7, 2015.4

She is survived by her caregiver and "daughter" Becky Harris and her children Bradley Harris, Crystal Harris Zimmerman and Michael Harris; special friends Ernestine Firebaugh and Earlene Shortt who traveled with and were like sisters to her. Also surviving are several cousins. Services will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005 from the Chapel of Light Mausoleum in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Belmont Baptist Church 825 Stewart Ave. S.E. Roanoke Va., 24013. Those left to cherish his precious memory are his partner and dear friend, Valerie Ross; his loving mother, Josephine Carico; his only son, Christopher Carico; his siblings, Deborah Yopp, Tina Mills (Fred), Mark Carico, Marion Peterson (Curtis) and Daryl Carico; many nieces and nephews; other family and friends who will all miss him very much. A Celebration of Life service will be held later this year. Dear Jimmy-A million times I've needed you, A million times I've cried… If love alone could have saved you; You never would have died. In life I loved you deeply, in death I love you still, in my heart you always hold a place, no one else can fill. It broke my heart to lose you, but you didn't go alone. Part of me went with you the day god called you home. Love, Valerie and Savannah. I hope you find the eternal peace you have always been looking for. on September 17, 2020.6
