Nancy Kirk1,2

F, b. September 5, 1937, d. April 19, 2019
Nancy Kirk Nancy Kirk Holcomb, September 5, 1937 - April 19, 2019. Friday, April 19, Nancy Kirk Holcomb of Fork Mountain in Franklin County entered her Heavenly Home joining her husband, John Melvin Holcomb; parents, Charles Everett and Doris Brown Kirk; sisters, Betty Lou Dillon, Ruby Warren, and Bessie Matherly; and brother, Everett Junior Kirk. She is survived by daughter, Katherine Holcomb (David Wiley); niece, Beth Dillon Hudson (Richard); great-niece, Anna Marie Hudson (Kyle Adams); sisters and brothers-in-law, Freeda Brown, Shirley Holcomb, Wayne and Sherry Holcomb, Douglas and Bobbie Holcomb; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Nancy retired from Stanley Furniture where she was a receptionist and switchboard operator for nearly twenty years. This position suited her as she communicated with people continually throughout her day. During the 70’s through early 90’s, she and Melvin owned and operated H & H Market and Holcomb’s Typewriter Service in Fork Mountain. While living in Maryland 1958 – 1971, Nancy was employed as part of the administrative staff at the University of Maryland’s Fire Service Extension, a training facility for fire fighters. For thirty-five years, Nancy volunteered as Treasurer of the Fork Mountain Rescue Squad, a position still held at the time of her death. In August 2018, the squad recognized her as a Lifetime Member. No person was a stranger to Nancy; she had a smile for all and shared laughter during every conversation. She loved Bluegrass and became miffed if Song of the Mountains was not aired on Saturday nights. Nancy could be spotted at many community breakfasts and attending gospel music concerts at local churches. She loved her own Fork Mountain United Methodist Church, worshiping with family and many lifelong friends. Nancy so enjoyed daily phone conversations with many, her cell phone often ringing while she was already talking on the landline or vice-versa. Until illness prevented her attendance, she did not miss monthly luncheons with members of Franklin County High School’s Class of 1955 or Stanley’s Retiree Breakfasts. A devoted mother, sister, and friend, Nancy’s fun-loving personality is not one to be easily forgotten. She always carried with her love, light, and laughter. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park.2 She was buried at Henry Memorial Park, 8443 Virginia Avenue, Oak Level, Henry Co., Virginia.3,2 Her married name was Holcomb.4 She married John Melvin Holcomb, son of Rev. Melvin Kermit Holcomb and Lucy Pearline Aldridge.1,2 Nancy Kirk was born on September 5, 1937.2 She died on April 19, 2019 at Virginia at age 81.2
