He also served on the companys Field Advisory Committee. He was a member of N.A.L.U. Mr. Turner was a World War II veteran. Surviving family left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Alice West Turner; son, Steven and wife, Helen; grandchildren, Christopher Turner and wife, Amanda, of Greenville, N.C., and James Steven Turner; sister, Betty Galerneau and husband, Richard; brothers, Eugene and wife, Vona, of Greenwood, S.C., and Kenneth and wife, Ruth, of Salem; and extended family, Sharon and Randy Vinson, of Berryville, Va. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Oakeys South Chapel, with Dr. David Peterson officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Burial Park with military honors. During World War II, West served in the Army with the 116th Infantry, 29th Division, that landed with “H” Company on Omaha Beach in the Normandy Invasion of D-Day on June 6, 1944. He received two Bronze Stars. Surviving are his wife, Betty Aaron West of the home; one daughter, Mary West Branch of Bassett; two sons, Robert “Bob” Marvin West of Ridgeway and Stephen Dale West of Axton; one sister, Rosalie West Spraker of Mount Airy, N.C; and four grandchildren. The Rev. Dale Wilson will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the funeral and other times at the home. She was born in Dustin, Okla., on May 30, 1916, to Marvin Edward West Sr. and Mary Park West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard C. Wilson. She was a member of Axton Baptist Church and the Women’s Missions; also, the Home Demonstration Club and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). Surviving are two daughters, Linda Sue Orcutt of Laurens, S.C., and Margaret Ann Davis of Axton; two sons, Marvin Edward Wilson of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Robert “Bob” Howard Wilson of Amherst; one sister, Rosalie West Spraker of Mount Airy, N.C; one brother, Marvin Edward West Jr. of Martinsville; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. on April 18, 2007.2
