She has spent the last 30 years researching family history including Vest, Conner, Sowers, Martin, Iddings and Richardson. She enjoyed reading the "Signs of the Times" published by The Oldest Primitive Baptist of Meadows of Dan passed on to her by her mother, Almeda. Her husband, Dossie William Sowers, Sr. preceded her in death on April 25, 1968 after 37 years of marriage and she thought of him and missed him everyday. She continued the family farm business for the last 37 years. She leaves behind a daughter Marie Ann Sowers Vest and son-in-law Gratton W. Vest, Salem; and a son (D.W.) Dossie William Sowers, Jr., Salem; five grandchildren and spouses, Rebecca (Becky) Thomas, Salem, Debbie Feury Hakola and Henry Hakola, Shawsville, Janet and Watson Boxley, Atlanta, Ga., Steve and Renee Sowers, Roanoke, Doug and Deanne Sowers, New Castle; five great-grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Jesse Feury, Fayetteville, N.C., Lindsay Thomas, Salem, Hannah Sowers, Roanoke, Kaitlin Sowers and Justin Gable, New Castle; brother and sisters-in-law; Alvin and Ocie Conner, Velvia Agee and Ora Conner, all of Check; and several nieces and nephews; special cousins and friends Elmer and Gracie Conner, Radford, Virginia Absher, Dublin, Robert and Doris Johnson, Cincinnatti, Ohio. Mary Magdalene Clardy died on July 16, 2014 at Cleveland, Bradley Co., Tennessee, at age 82.2,3 She Mary Magdalene Clardy Austin, 82, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the family residence. She was a member of West Cleveland Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Lum Clardy and Bonnie Hawkins Clardy. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Vickie Coffman; brothers and sisters: Emmaline Loggins, Ovan Clardy, William Clardy, Margaret Kessel, Sham Clardy, Anna Belle Clardy and Clarence Clardy. She is survived by her husband, Robert Austin of Cleveland; children: Ann Ledford and husband, Mike, of Cleveland, Denise Johnson and husband, Randall, of Hartsell, Ala. and Holly Watson and husband, David, of Doncaster, England; sister, Flora McMunn of Decatur, Ala; grandchildren: Kelli Cowart, Stephanie McCluskey and Calwyn Watson; great-grandchildren: Stephen Grantland, Austin Grantland, Paisley Coffman, Hunter Hill, and Karsen McCluskey; great-great-grandchildren: Zayden Grantland and “soon to arrive” Brayson Grantland; and special children: Logan King, Thad Stedman and Allie Stedman; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at West Cleveland Baptist Church with Pastor Jesse Crane officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. this evening at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. on July 17, 2014.2

Sowers Jr. and Pearlie Ann Nichols were divorced on July 19, 2004 at Roanoke, Virginia.7 Dossie William "D.W." Sowers Jr. died on December 27, 2023 at Virginia at age 87.9 He Dossie W. "D.W." Sowers Jr., 87, of Salem, Va., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, after a short battle with Dementia. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Floyd County, Va., on July 26, 1936, to Dossie W. Sowers Sr. and Erma Sowers. D.W. was the valedictorian for the Class of 1954 of Check High School, a farmer, a Manager at Shepherds Auto Supply, a retired dedicated Teamsters truck driver for McLean and Preston, a husband, dad, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and his former wife, Pearlie Sowers. D.W. is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Renée Sowers of Roanoke, Va., and Douglas and Deanne Sowers of New Castle, Va; grandchildren, Justin, Kaitlin, and Hannah; sister, Marie Ann Vest of Salem, Va; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved friends; special long-time friend, Ronnie St. Clair and family of Moneta, Va. The family would like to thank the staff of Friendship Health & Rehab Center South for their compassion and support. Interment will follow at the Wilson Cemetery in Check, Va. on December 30, 2023.9
