James Ralph Poff Jr. James "Ralph" Poff, 81, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. He was born on May 20, 1942, to the late Ralph and Hettie Poff of Roanoke. Ralph is survived by his wife, Connie L. Poff; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Lynda Poff and Jonathon and Erin Poff; grandchildren, Olivia and Jackson Poff; his sister, Charlotte Poff; sister and her husband, Lucy and Ray Drain; brother and his wife, Marvin and Martha Poff; brother and his wife, Norman and Lani Poff; and brother-in-law, Horace Light. Ralph worked in the Hydro Department for Appalachian Power for many years. He was an active member of the Kazim and served in many capacities, most recently the director's staff. Ralph had a spirit of generosity and service to his family and community which he was able to fulfill through his family and Kazim family. Ralph was an adoring grandfather and took pride in making Olivia and Jackson laugh. They brought out his sense of humor and sneaky wit that would spur laughter throughout the room. Alton is survived by his wife of 59 years, Christene Thomas Vest; sons, Marvin Darrell Vest (Glenna), Rick Alton Vest (Teresa), James Vernon Vest, and Timothy Clark Vest; grandchildren, Mandie Bishop (Travis), Justin Vest (Iris), Ricky Alton Vest Jr. (Meredith), Tony Vest, and Lance Vest; great-grandchildren, Charity Bishop, Addison Vest, Garrett Alton Vest, Ella Bishop; sisters, Ina Wood (Herbert), Lorine Huff (David), Claudine Haynes (Don); sister-in-law, Ruby Vest; and several special nieces and nephews. Alton was a long time member of Topeco Church of the Brethren. The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice of Salem for their caring support over the past few months. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Topeco Church of the Brethren, officiated by the Rev. Mike Varner, and grandson/Youth Pastor Ricky Vest Jr. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Topeco Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice of Salem, 1312 West Main Street, Salem, VA 24153. on October 20, 2012.⁴

Violet Christene Thomas died on July 11, 2018 at Virginia at age 85.⁴ She Christene T. Vest, 85 of Floyd, Va., went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 11, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Alton Vest and sister, Marcella Whitlow. She was a life time member of Topeco Church of the Brethren. She is survived by her sons, Darrell Vest (Glenna), Ricky Vest (Teresa), James Vest, Timothy Vest; brother-in-law, Bill Whitlow; sisters-in-law, Ina Wood (Herbert), Claudine Haynes (Don), Lorine Huff (David); five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Interment to follow in the Topeco Cemetery. on July 14, 2018.⁴
