Robbin Leigh Carroll Robbin Leigh Carroll, 56, of Roanoke, transitioned from this life into her eternal home on Thursday, October 11, 2018. She is survived by her devoted and loving parents, Stephen R. (Steve) and Rita Peverall Carroll of Botetourt; her brother, S. Todd Carroll (Jennifer), nephew and niece, Daniel and Rachel Carroll of Roanoke; nephew, Joshua A. Carroll of Muncie Indiana. Robbin was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Stewart D. and Goldie Keaton Carroll of Roanoke and maternal grandparents, Albert A. (Sr.) and Dale Meadows Peverall of Vinton. Robbin’s partner, Jessica Ficarro was an unfaltering and faithful friend who provided her with constant unselfish nurturing care, love, support, stability, and encouragement. She brought Robbin countless days of joy with her quick wit and humor even on the darkest days. Ann Powell was a devoted and close friend that spanned several decades. A plenitude of other friends came in droves to show their love and support for Robbin. Many almost jumped through hoops to make things happen and come to her aid. Robbin’s love and adoration for her family as well as her family’s love for her was unsurpassed. Her relationship with her Mom and Dad was a beautiful thing. She held the highest respect for her Dad and valued his opinion. They both were passionate in their love of softball as well as football in which they shared many special moments watching games together, cheering their team on. Her relationship with her Mom far exceeded that of a mother-daughter relationship but extended to that of a close friendship. Rita often referred to Robbin as her ‘best friend’. Robbin thought there was nothing her Mom could not do and was so proud of her Mom’s successful art career, always offering praise and encouragement. She was a sounding board to her brother, Todd, her nephews, Joshua and Daniel and niece Rachel. She cherished her relationship with each of them and was always willing to listen to their problems, concerns or even secrets that they shared with her and no one else. She always extended a loving and listening ear without judgement or condemnation. Her life was a blessing to her aunt and other extended family members including many cousins that loved and adored her. She was like a second Mom to her cousin, Jill Linkenhoker Obaugh and her absence will leave a great void. Robbin was a passionate animal lover and would not even watch a movie if it portrayed the mistreatment of any animal. It is doubtful there was ever a cat or a dog that did not gravitate to her. She was like a magnet to them just as she was to people! In addition to her love of family, friends, softball/football and animals, she LOVED the outdoors! She was drawn to any activity that would permit her to linger longer in the sunlight. She loved spending time at Cherry Grove Beach, a boat ride on the lake, or just sitting by the pool basking in the sun; all of which brought great joy to her life. It made perfect sense when she started her own company, Grasshopper’s Landscaping. Robbin had a keen eye for detail and loved the landscaping aspect of her lawn service. She was a great boss who loved her employees and took special interest in them and tried to always be fair and respectful if they didn’t measure up to her expectations. She took great pride in her company and its success. Giving it up when she first became ill was one of the hardest things she ever had to do. Robbin was diagnosed in 2013 with Stage IV Colorectal Cancer, but she never stopped seeing the ‘glass half-full’. She never entertained a ‘pity party’ but instead embraced life and sought to savor every moment, making the most of each and every day considering each one a gift. She was truly an inspiration to others! Even doctors were amazed. Dr. William Fintel, Liz Skaggs and staff at Lewis Gale Blue Ridge Cancer Center were in disbelief at times at how she defied all reasonable explanation as to the longevity and quality of her life that extended long past the days they may have predicted for her. On her worst days her concern was always for her loved ones and what affect her disease was having on them. Much of the last year or more of her life was filled with an enormous amount of pain that would have conquered and destroyed most people’s outlook on life. But Robbin continued to display courage in spite of setbacks and adversity--not to mention her beautiful and contagious SMILE that lit up the room! All who have had the privilege to know her will remember that signature SMILE. The darkness of death cannot extinguish the light of her SMILE that will live on upon every remembrance of her!3 She was born on July 9, 1962 at Roanoke, Virginia.2 She died on October 11, 2018 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 56.3
