He was a former sales representative for Virginia Foods, where he worked for 16 years, and was the former owner of the Castle Hobble and Video. Prior to his illness, he was a representative for Green Guard Medical Supply Company. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, George L. Slade. Surviving, in addition to his mother; wife, Ruby Davidson Earls of Bluefield. W.Va; sons, John F. Earls, III of Bluefield, W.Va., and John Joseph "Joe" Earls of Lewisburg. W.Va; stepbrother, Frank Slade of Springville, Va; father-in-law , Joe P. Davidson of Bluefield. W.Va. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. on May 28, 1996.5

She was born Aug. 20, 1912, in rural Sangamon County, the daughter of James T. and Pheobe Duffy Stephens. She married Alex Bain in 1948. Mrs. Bain was a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Temple Church. Survivors: husband, Alex; two daughters, Lila L. Hohimer of Springfield and Maxine Burger of Chatham; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Velma Elmore of Chatham; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services: Oak Ridge Cemetery.1 Her married name was Thornton.2 She married Willard Russell Thornton, son of Quinton Harvey "Quince" Thornton and Lydia A.
