     Carmen Marie Rye Carmen Marie Rye Thomas, of Bedford County, Va., was taken from us on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Our pain is nearly unbearable. She was our shining star that kept her family and friends close and was loved by everyone who knew her. Her mere presence could light up the room. Carmen was a loving, thoughtful, sensitive and caring person. The people whose lives she touched will be imprinted forever. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School and because of her love for animals, worked as a veterinarian assistant for years. More recently, Carmen worked as an assistant event planner and found joy in helping to plan events that brought people together. She loved her family and friends and never missed an opportunity to show it and was a devoted, respectable, loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, wife and mother. Carmen made it her personal goal to assure her sister, who passed away before her, was never forgotten and stepped in as Aunt Carmen for her niece and nephew. She took every opportunity to plan her life to include her brother and niece. Carmen loved being married, being a wife and doing everything to make sure their home was warm and inviting. Her most important and greatest love was for her son, Connor, who was the center of her world. If you ever had the privilege of knowing her, you were truly blessed. The void of losing her will never go away for those she left behind. Still, Carmen would want us to go on loving, living, caring and being the best we could and she would want us to embrace every minute of our precious time together. Carmen was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Frank A. and Della J. Rye; maternal grandfather, C. Thomas McKinney; and sister, Michelle (Mitzi) Hale. Survivors include her husband, Brian A. Thomas; son, Connor A. Thomas; parents, Charles A. and Jeanne Rye; brother, Charles W. Rye; maternal grandmother, Shirley J. McKinney; in-laws, Juanita and Buddy Hudson, Richard and Sharon Thomas and Henry and Betty Rakes; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and life time best friend, Barbara Flowers Walker. Remember Our Beautiful, Shining Star, Carmen Marie.³ She was born on August 25, 1979 at Roanoke, Virginia.² As of May 25, 2005,her married name was Thomas.¹ She married Brian Allen Thomas, son of Richard Allen Thomas and Juanita Mae Rakes, on May 25, 2005 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,3 Carmen Marie Rye died on October 8, 2016 at Virginia at age 37.³

     Brooke Nicole Ashcraft Brooke Ferguson, July 23rd, 1982 - January 3rd, 2023. Brooke Nicole Ferguson of Roanoke, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the age of 40. Brooke was the Dean of Students at Virginia Western Community College and she was an avid supporter of her daughter, Mackenzie Ferguson’s Hidden Valley High School Volleyball team. Brooke received an International Baccalaureate diploma from Salem High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree from JMU in 2000 and a Master’s Degree from JMU in 2006. Brooke was an impressive athlete and was a member of the 1998 State Championship Salem High School Volleyball team. She also played volleyball at JMU where she competed nationally. Brooke’s memory will be forever cherished by her parents, Chuck and Brenda Ashcraft as well as her brother, Scott. Additionally, she will remain in the hearts of her partner, Michael Gray, her former spouse, Todd Ferguson and her beloved children, Mackenzie Ferguson and Sawyer Gray. Brooke will also be forever missed by Michael Gray’s children, Jackson Gray, Mason Gray, and Emme Gray. Brooke also leaves behind three special friends, Laura Furcron, Hillary Holland and Valerie Coles.³ She and Ronald Todd Ferguson were divorced.³ Brooke Nicole Ashcraft was born on July 23, 1982 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,3 As of July 15, 2006,her married name was Ferguson.¹ She married Ronald Todd Ferguson, son of Ronald Ray Ferguson and Reatha Cheyenne Little, on July 15, 2006 at Roanoke, Virginia.^4,1 Brooke Nicole Ashcraft died on January 3, 2023 at Virginia at age 40.³

     George Robert DeHart was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^2,5 His Social Security Number was 227-46-5080.⁴ He was born on April 23, 1937 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^4,5 He married Evelyn Jean Manning, daughter of Alton Lemon Manning and Thelma Gay Bartlett, on August 11, 1956 at Chester Co., South Carolina.^1,3 George Robert DeHart died on August 23, 1991 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 54.^2,4,5,6 He George Robert DeHart, age 54, of Salem died Friday at a local hospital. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa D. Saunders. Mr. DeHart is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. DeHart; two daughters, Mrs. Deborah Wright, Roanoke; Ms. Brenda DeHart Sweeney, Salem; three brothers, Jack L. DeHart, Walter L. DeHart, Donald L. DeHart, all of Salem; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Epperly, Elliston, and Mrs. Betty Robertson, Roanoke County; one grandson, Chad Allen Wright. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. on August 25, 1991.²
