She was preceded in death by three siste rs, Florence Brown, Ruth Kimberlin and Mary Henley; two brothers, Steve Bell and Thomas Bell, and a granddaughter, Gretchen Wingfield. Surviving: daughter, Betty Wingfield of Sidney, Ohio; son, Charles H. Elmore of Charlotte, N.C; grandchildren, Candace Goodall of Troy, Ohio, Russell Wingfield of North Carolina and David Elmore of Charlotte: greatgrandchildren, Leslie Wingfield, Alec Goodall and Brooke Goodall; several nieces and nephews. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Princeton. on March 21, 1997.2

Although Charles enjoyed his work at Qualex and the City of Concord, he found his true calling working with Greyhound Rescue. Charles and Judy have been involved with Greyhound adoptions for over 13 years. Their Greyhounds were named Eddie and Ginnie. Their chosen family was Greyhound Friends of North Carolina and Greyhound Crossroads of South Carolina, where the time given to promote the adoption of retired Greyhounds brought endless joy and the joy of his chosen family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Judy (Sherwood) Elmore of the home; son David S. Elmore and wife Michelle of Perkinston, Miss; grandchildren Maritza and Jacob; aunt Billie Whittaker of Princeton, W.Va; sister Betty Winfield of West Milton, Ohio; nephew Russell Winfield and wife Debbie; niece Candace Goodall and husband Joe of Ohio; sister-in-law Sue Ward and husband Ken of Zionsville; nephew Jared Ward and wife Crystal of Boone; niece Megan Ward of Boone; Greyhounds Eddie and Ginnie; longtime friends Thomas Brown and wife Debbie of concord, Phil Sanders of Comer, Ga., David Scattergood of Cornelius and Suzy Fincannon and husband Steve of Cornelius; and adopted mother Mary Sanders of Harrisburg. on January 7, 2009.2

Joseph Daniel Wingfield Jr. Joe, 83, 1288 Turner Dr., Sidney, died at 11:51 p.m., at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Joseph Daniel and Hazel (Kiser) Wingfield. On Oct 23, 1987, he and his first wife, Betty E., were grandted a dissolution of marriage. On Apr 21, 1989, he married a second time to Clara I. (Wolfe) Arnold, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Russell (Debbie), Charlotte, NC; a daughter Candy (Joe) Goodall, Troy; four stepchildren: Shelia (Bill) Nuss, Sherry (Mike) Scully, Steve (Joyce) and Scott (Chris) Arnold, all Sidney; three grandchildren: Alec and Brooke Goodall, and Leslie Miller; twelve step-grandchildren, and thirty-five great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jackie Carter, one grandson, Michael Carter and one great grandson, Rylan Harden and two sisters. Curtis was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead for 39 years and retired from Sears as a service Technician after 28 years. Curtis enjoyed hunting with his sons, playing with his grandchildren, working in his vegetable garden and he loved to cook with his wife Jackie at Anna’s Restaurant in Narrows. He is survived by two daughters, Robin Hill of NC, Angi Carter of Pearisburg, three sons, Mark Carter (Jolie) of Winchester, Frankie Carter of NC, Chris Carter (Gina) of Pearisburg, seven grandchildren, Karen Gould, Kenny Hill, Jeane Davis, Stephanie Carter, Nicholas Carter, Nikki Carter, Andi Carter, four great grandchildren, Dylan Glisson, Austin Glisson, Michaela Harden and Noah Carter, three sisters, Margaret Jones, Ruby Christian, Alice Jo Mann and two brothers, Harry Landon Carter and John Carter. Burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
