She was born in Princeton, and grew up as she would say, "Elkorn, West by god Virginia!" She was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, Class of 1966, and after graduation stayed in the Roanoke Valley where she worked as a bank manager, Clerk of Circuit Court, VP of R. Frazier Inc. and was a self-employed accounting consultant. She was a pillar of the Salem community, and her accolades are felt even to this day, as she was a plank-holder in the development of the Farmers Market, a founding member of Olde Salem Days, and a devoted member of Ft. Lewis Christian Church. June is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Georgia Harry; her grandmother, Cannie Elmore; and her brother, Roger Harry. June is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Thomas (Tommy); her Airforce son, Jason; her sister, Judy Lawrence; and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to living here in Salem, she also had a wonderful extended family in Florida, in which she wanted to thank them for all of their support, gifts, cards, and flowers. Speaking of support, she would have wanted to extend a special appreciation to Heather, who as a previous cancer survivor, attended, supported, and cared for her to the very end. Finally, she would want to thank the "Ya-Yas", Pheobe McAnallen, Becky Leffell, and Ann Sampson, for the life-long support till very last bottle was popped! Although she loved flowers, and she would be appreciative of them in the end, she loved her church just as much. on May 10, 2017.³

     Thomas Eldridge "Tommy" Higgs was born on May 21, 1947 at Roanoke, Virginia.^4,5,6 He married June Lee Harry, daughter of Cecil Gatewood Harry and Georgia Elizabeth Elmore, on September 1, 1973 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^1,2,3,5 Thomas Eldridge "Tommy" Higgs died on May 7, 2020 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 72.⁴ He Thomas Eldridge Higgs, to his friends Tommy, 72, from Salem, Virginia, passed away on May 7, 2020, from a broken heart. This wasn't a medical diagnosis but for everyone who knew him, he took the loss of his beloved June's death harder than any of his medical conditions could ever dish out. He was born in Roanoke, lived in Salem, and when he had the chance spent as much time in Navarre, Florida as he could. He was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, Class of 1966, and after graduation, he joined the U.S Army. He served two tours in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 and returned from Vietnam a decorated soldier earning multiple bronze stars, multiple achievement metals, and the Vietnamese cross of gallantry. Upon the completion of his service, he joined his father as a co-owner of Higgs Welding Inc., a business that lasted for over 25 years in the Roanoke Valley. He later became an avid artist, working metal and copper to create amazing sculptures that are featured both in Virginia and Florida. Tommy was active in the community, doing volunteer welding work for the city when it was needed, a member of the Penguin club for over 35 years, and part of the Masonic Lodge here in Salem for over 40 years. Tommy was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, June, and his parents, Benton, and Genevieve Higgs. Tommy is survived by his son, Air Force Major (Ret.) Jason Higgs; his brothers, Benton Jr. and Richard; his sisters, Beverly, and Carolyn, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and good friends. In addition to living here in Salem, he also had a wonderful extended family in Navarre, Florida, in which he would have wanted to thank them for all their support, gifts, cards, and flowers. They were an integral part of his efforts in coping with the loss of the woman he loved for over 57 years. Tommy, and his wife June, loved Salem, and their son Jason has worked hard to make a legacy for them that will last for multiple generations. Services will be held graveside at Sherwood cemetery. on June 8, 2022.⁴

Ms. Harry was a very active sky diver in Prism, in Charlotte, with over 80 jumps. Ms. Harry is survived by her beloved son, Roger Harry of Charlotte; stepdaughter, Heather Harry of Roanoke, VA; loving parents, Jackie and Bill Simpson of Charlotte; five sisters, Brenda and Mike Smith and their daughter Sarah, of Sylva, NC, Jennifer and Steve Parker and their children, Ginger and Bryan of Roanoke, VA, Barbara and Tim Caldwell and their children, Timmy and Joey, of Charlotte, Sylvia LaBarge and her children Steve, John, and Sharon of La Crescent, MN; and brother, Roger and Frances Simpson and their children, Mike and Donna Lynn of Sylvester, GA; and many aunts, uncles and other relatives. on December 24, 1995.²

C. Elmore, Old Bluefield-Princeton Road. Police ruled the fatal wound was self inflicted. Elmore, a nine-year veteran with the U.S. Air Force, died of a pistol wound in the mouth. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department conducted the investigation. In addition to the parents, the victim is survived by his wife, Willie Whitted Elmore; a daughter; Pamela Elmore of the home; four brothers, Clyde, Thurman, and Howard Elmore of Princeton, and Bob Elmore of Oakvale; threesisters, Irene Sanders and Katherine Neeley of Princeton, and Helen Belcher of Jackson, Ohio. on March 24, 1963.

He was a heavy equipment master mechanic and a member of Johnsons Chapel Baptist Church on Hall's Ridge. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and a veteran of World War II, who served overseas with the U.S. Army He was a lifelong resident of Mercer County. He was born in Princeton May 28, 1921, the son the late Grover Cleveland and Ethyl Manning Elmore, Sr. Survivors include his wife, Flora Whitted Elmore; three daughters, Mrs. Robert D. (Thursa Gaye) Johnston of Smithville, Mrs. Bobby (Patty) Shreve of Conrose, Texas, and Mrs. Butch (Queenie) Caldwell of Princeton; one son, Steve Lee Elmore of Princeton; three sisters, Mrs. Irene Sanders, Mrs. Katherine Neely, both of Princeton, and Mrs. Helen Belcher of Marietta, Ohio; two brothers, Clyde (Pat) Elmore of Princeton and Robert Elmore of Oakvale; and eight grandchildren. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Kemper Powell, Ernie Wilson, Tony Oney, Andrew Parsons, Willard Martin and Richard Martin. on December 8, 1978.⁴
