Born Aug. 22, 1915, in Princeton, he was the son of the late Howard and Ethel Fielder Johnston. He was educated in Mercer County, was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. He was a retired employee for the Pipestem State Park, a Department of Natural Resources for the state of West Virginia. He was a member of the AF & AM Masonic Lodge 134 of Princeton and had received his 50-year pin. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Johnston; and a sister, Bessie Johnston Osborne. Survivors include his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Mildred V. "Mickey" Elmore Johnston; one son, John Keith Johnston of Princeton; and one sister, Mary Lee Neely of Princeton. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Courthouse Road, Princeton. Pallbearers will be Allen Griffith, Bob Whittaker, Jack Nester, John Robinson, Sandy Pennington, Eddie Hale, Bobby Worrell, Jim Bo Barton and Roger Lusk. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Oney, 59, who died at 4:03 o'clock Monday morning at his home at Oney's Gap after a brief illness, will be conducted at the First Methodist church this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by the Rev. Paul P. Martin, followed by interment in Resthaven Memorial park. Active pallbearers will be Bernard White, C. L. Shannon, Matthews Selvey, Basil Salvey, D. L. Moses, Edd Gott and Jim Bowman. Ambrose A. Oney was born at Oney Gap, near Princeton, December 13, 1876, the youngest son of the late E. E. and Fannie Oney. On November 29, 1906, he was married to Ann Nettie Elmore, and to this union was born five children, four of whom are living, one child, Ruby Pearl, dying October 15, 1920. He leaves his widow, two sons, Sterling and Ray Oney, of Princeton, and two daughters, Sue Irene, Princeton, and Beulah Alice Oney, of Mullens, W.Va. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Mamie Miller, of Princeton. Mr. Oney was a devout and faithful member of the First Methodist Episcopal church, South, of Princeton. For several years he was employed in the car department of the Virginian railway in Princeton. He was well known and loved by many persons in this section of the county, having lived all his life in the old Oney home near Princeton in which he was born. He spent his life serving his family, being a loving and devoted husband and father. He will not only be missed by his family but by the community in which he lived and the men with whom he worked day after day. on January 7, 1936.5

"Bucky" Elmore, 78, of Roanoke passed to his Heavenly home on the morning of Wednesday, September 16, 2020. Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Mabel W. Elmore; daughter, Angela (Mike) Collins; granddaughters, Megan (Jeff) Fisher, and Miranda Collins; sister, Sarah (Richard) Barnett; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill (Linda) Williams; nieces, Heather Williams, Holly (Scott) Martin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alfred (Laura Ann) Williams; nieces, Tammy Williams and Janet Humphreys and their families; and many special and cherished friends. Bucky was a man of strong faith, had a huge heart, and always loved to make someone laugh. He was blessed with a strong circle of frineds, a family that he loved and cherished, and granddaughters that were the apple of his eye. He enjoyed talking about history, the wild west, and pretty much anything outdoors. He loved sharing adventure tales with his daughter and granddaughters along with instilling a strong belief in God to ensure they had a solid foundation. Bucky was a member of Clearbrook Baptist Church. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the Staff at Good Samaritan Hospice for their excellent service and care. A graveside service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Orchard Cemetery, Ballard, West Virginia. on September 18, 2020.4

Elmore, January 13, 1944 - October 10, 2023. Mabel Williams Elmore, 79, widow of Robert L. "Bucky" Elmore, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at her home with her family by her side. In addition to her husband of 56 years she was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Ruth Crawford Williams. Mabel was known for her gift of singing and playing piano. She took joy in sharing it with others throughout her life. Mabel sang with many groups including the Gospel Tones Quartet, the Fellowship Trio, The Ambassadors, and Glory Bound. Each were a blessing in her life and shared her passion to share God's love through music. She will be missed and remembered by her daughter, Angela Elmore Collins (Mike); granddaughters, Megan Fischer (Jeff), Miranda Collins and great granddaughter Alexandra (Lexi) Fischer; siblings, Bill Williams (Linda), Alfred Williams (Laura Ann); nieces, Heather Williams, Holly Martin (Scott), Tammy Williams, Janet Humphreys (Fred). Interment will follow the service at Orchard Cemetery in Ballard, WV. on October 15, 2023.3

Born July 12, 1941, he was the son of Helen Elmore Worrell of Princeton and the late Rufus D. Worrell. Mason was a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1959. He received his bachelor's degree in Education/Music from Concord College and a Master's Degree from Radford University. Mason began his teaching career at Richland High School in Richland Virginia. He began his long teaching career in Mercer County, having taught at Montcalm, Flat Top, Camp Creek, Knob, Silver Springs and retiring from Mercer Elementary School in 2004. Mason loved teaching and directing music; he truly was gifted. His love for his students was genuine and sincere. He was a member of the Princeton Presbyterian Church and was an Elder of the Church. Mason was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and grandfather. He loved being outside, especially working in his yard, raising his roses, and pulling his grandson, Miciah, in his little wagon around the neighborhood. Survivors include, his faithful and loving wife of 40 years, Shirley White Worrell. Two Sons, Anthony T. Worrell of Princeton Craig B. Worrell & wife Mandi of Brunswick, Ohio. His mother, Helen Elmore Worrell of Princeton. The joy of his life, his grandson, Miciah Anthony Worrell. Brother, Arthur D. Worrell & wife Sharon B. of Rogers, Ark. He was born on Sept. 11, 1943, in Princeton, W.Va., the son of Rufus and Margaret (Elmore) Worrell. Arthur married Sharon Rice in Fall River, Mass., on Nov. 10, 1964, and they were married over 47 years before Arthur's death. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1966. He was a Princeton city policeman for several years then began working for the railroad as an engineer before becoming a special agent for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe were he retired after 31 years of service. He was talented with playing musical instruments and with wood-working. Preceded in death by his father, Rufus Worrell; and one brother, Mason Worrell. Arthur is survived by his wife, Sharon Worrell of Rogers; his mother, Margaret of Princeton, W.Va; four children, Dale Worrell and wife, Rhonda, of Yorkville, Ill., Misty Dougherty and husband, Alan, of Rogers, Dwayne Worrell and wife, Andrea, of Downers Grove, Ill., Kristy Weber and husband, Judd, of Sandwich, Ill; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
