Willis Lee Elmore was buried at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Courthouse Road, Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.3 He was born on October 29, 1935 at Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.2,3 He married Dorothy Eleanor Curley on December 22, 1958 at Arlington, Virginia.2,7,3 Willis Lee Elmore died on June 15, 2024 at Glen Mills, Delaware Co., Pennsylvania, at age 88.3 He Willis Lee Elmore, 88, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 15, 2024. Willis was born in Princeton, West Virginia on October 29, 1935, the eldest child of Louise (Gooch) and Buford T. Elmore. Willis graduated from Concord College in 1953 with an accounting degree and accepted a job with the General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C., a position which they held for him while he served a two-year tour in the Army. Once he settled in D.C., Willis met his future wife, Dorothy Curley. Willis and Dorothy wed in 1958, and had been married 56 years at the time of Dorothy's death in 2014. Willis was as dedicated professionally as he was to Dorothy, having just one job in his career, as an auditor with the General Accounting Office. He retired from the GAO in 1992 after 35 years with the government. Willis and Dorothy lived in Northern Virginia, and were blessed in 1965 with the birth of their only child, Nancy. Nancy was their center of their universe until she later gave them two grandchildren, Rebecca and Andrew. In 1996, Willis and Dorothy decided to move to Blacksburg, Virginia, a town they fell in love with while Nancy attended college at Virginia Tech, probably because of the views of the Blue Ridge mountains, which reminded him of his youth in Princeton. Following Dorothy's passing, Willis moved to Glen Mills, Pennsylvania in 2016, to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. Willis was never happier then when he was with his family, so the last 8 years were truly a blessed time, not just for Willis but also for his family. In addition to his family and his work, Willis was a big sports fan from the Virginia Tech Hokies (football and women's basketball), to his Washington Commanders and Baltimore Orioles, and, begrudgingly, to the Phillies and Eagles at the end. He loved to watch games, especially with his grandchildren. Willis also enjoyed reading, particularly history and biographies, and he loved sharing the facts he learned with his family and friends. He also loved studying scripture and was a member of a Bible study group both in Blacksburg and in Glen Mills. Willis is survived by his daughter, Nancy Elmore Ritter (Brad), his grandchildren, Rebecca Moore (Joe), his grandson, Andrew Ritter, his brother, Stanley Elmore (Jean), his sister, Juanita Collins, and many nieces and nephews who loved him. A ceremony in the Fall at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Princeton, West Virginia, is where his remains will be laid to rest next to his beloved Dorothy. on June 23, 2024.3
