Ronald Jay Waggoner Ronald Waggoner, 59, of Montpelier, passed away after a brief illness with Liver Cancer on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family and devoted friend, Lloyd Franks. He was born in Bluefield, VA on December 1, 1960, the son of Jay and Fay (Delp) Waggoner. After moving the family to Florida, Ron graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School in 1978. After high school, Ron served in the United States Army, Green Beret Special Forces. He served until his honorable discharge in 1987 with the rank of Specialist. On April 4, 1987, Ron married the love of his life, Marla MacGregor in North Hero, VT. After his military service, Ron worked for his family’s business, Sunshine Uniform. He later owned, “Cooter Browns,” a local bar in Altamonte Springs, FL. After coming to terms with his troubles with alcohol, Ron recognized the gift that sobriety was for him. It was with this revelation that Ron found his true calling and passion as a drug and alcohol counselor. Ron served the Central Vermont Community with The Lighthouse Program through Washington County Mental Health. Ron was a proud member of the American Legion Post #3, the Mason’s, Elks Club, VFW, and Disabled American Veterans. He was also one of the founders of the Vermont Vet to Vet program, currently sponsored by the VA Hospital. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Marla Waggoner of Montpelier; his children, Dameron Matherne of Denham Springs, LA, Dean Jay Waggoner of Barre, VT , Megan Waggoner of Vernon, CT, and Nicole Waggoner of Barre, VT; his mother, Fay Waggoner of Fort Walton Beach, FL; siblings, Alan Waggoner of Charleston, SC, Mike Waggoner of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Angie Waggoner Richey of Crosby, TX, and Christy Waggoner-Orn of Pointblank, TX; nine grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his mother, Faye Ann (Delp) Waggoner-Maines; brother William Alan Waggoner and spouse Joyce Ann; sister Angi Richey and spouse Doug; sister-in-law Marla Waggoner; brother –in-law Brian Orn; nephews Dean Jay Waggoner, Grant Alan Waggoner, Jay Matthys, Blane Orn, Riley Orn, and Devin Hinkle; nieces Dameron Matherne, Megan Waggoner, Nicole White, Melissa Amber Waggoner Campbell, Kaitlyn Richey. Mrs. Byrd worked as an attorney at the Walter C. Holton law firm. Prior to that, she worked as an assistant public defender in Forsyth County from 2004 to 2007, as well as, for McAllister and Hanks from 2003 to 2004. She is survived by her husband, Jones Pharr Byrd Jr. of Winston-Salem; her mother, Barbara Ann Delp of Chilhowie, Va; brother and sister-in-law, James Michael Delp and Lori Kaye Delp of Chilhowie and their daughter, Donna Alexandra Delp; half-sister Sherri Konst and her family of Roanoke, Va; half-sister, Patti Fleming of Atlanta; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She has also left behind two wonderful dogs, Pasha and Myra. Amy was a friend to all that met her and lit up rooms with her presence. Everyone who knew Amy loved her spirit, sense of humor and was impressed by her intellect, which was matched only by her passion for her family and friends. Her love of life came through in everything she did. She will be greatly missed by all. on January 23, 2009.1
