L. Oakes from the Navy Dept., stated that his son, French Leonard Oakes had died in the Naval Hospital as Norfolk as the result of an automobile accident. No details were given. Young Oakes was ah electrician's mate first class in the navy having volunteered February 20, 1940. After his unduction he was sent to Seattle, Wash., and later lo the Aleutien Islands. He had taken part in that and many othee engagements. Last April he was at home for the first time since going in the service. At that time he was sent to New Orleans and later transferred to Norfolk. This Christmas he spent a five-day furlough with his parents. He was botn in Clifton Forge Ortober 16, 1919 and was graduated from the Clifton Forge Higa School of the class of 1938. Besides his parents, he is survived by five sisters and a small brother, Frances, Ruby and Hilda, of Washington, Peggy and Bobby at home. Pallbearers were six enlisted men of the navy and burial was made in Mountain View Cemetery. on January 24, 1944.4

She graduated from John Marshall High School and attended Westhampton College. Dot was a devoted and lifelong member of Overbrook Presbyterian Church, where her mother enrolled her in the Cradle Roll at birth. Musically talented, she loved singing in the choir. Dot led a very active life, travelling frequently, enjoying musicals and socializing with the XYZ Club, her family and friends. Dot was also a member of Mizpah Chapter # 32 O.E.S. and served as Star Point Ruth. She is survived by numerous cousins including Agnes Reid Pickral, Elizabeth "Pete" Connelly and Charles Elliott. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Louise Leadbetter, Elizabeth Garrison and Josephine Jones. Her many nieces and nephews will miss her greatly and, in whose hearts, she will live. on December 28, 2006.4

Interment will follow in Gretna Burial Park. on August 18, 2001.6

She is survived by her niece, Nancy Doss and her husband, Curtis of Blue Ridge; a number of nieces and nephews and their families. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park. on April 28, 2005.6
