Billie Issac Owen was buried at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Virginia.1 His Social Security Number was 230-16-4193.8 He Billy Issac Owen, 32-year-old resident of Chatham, route 6, was killed in a non-collision truck accident Saturday night, September 22nd, near Climax, in sight of his own home. State Trooper, N. H. Hamon, who investigated the accident, fixed the time of the accident at around 11:30. According to the Trooper, Owen died some two hours before his body was discovered. Owen apparently lost control of the vehicle, a 1942 Ford truck, and went into the ditch on the left side of the road. Trooper Harmon reported the door on the driver's side of the truck had come open and Owen fell into the ditch and was killed when the truck's rear left dual wheels ran over him. The truck proceeded 153 feet down the ditch before stopping. The accident was first spotted by Russell Keck and Ronald Hudson at approximately 11:45 P. M. Just before arriving at the scene of the accident a car, traveling at a high rate of speed, had passed them going in the opposite direction. When Keck and Hudson then discovered the truck in the ditch, but were unable to see any injured, they assumed the car that had passed them had picked up any injured and was taking them to a hospital. Later in the evening, about 1:30 Don Cundiff, his father and two small sons, sotted the truck. Cundiff recognized the truck as belonging to Owen, and they stopped to try and move the truck. Keck and Hudson were driving behind Cundiff, and also stopped. While the men were engaged in trying to remove the truck from the ditch the two small boys wandered down the road and discovered Owen's body lying in the ditch. With Owen's death the county's number of highway fatalities went to five. Owen was returning home from Danville after delivering some tobacco for the opening sales on Monday morning. Funeral services for the victim were conducted Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock form the chapel of Scott Funeral Home. Burial followed in Highland Burial Park. Owen is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith Blair Owen, and six children, J'nell, Patrica Ann, Carlene, Betty Jane, Blair and Wayne. Also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Owen, Chatham, route 6; a sister Mrs. A. D. Motley of Norfolk; and two brothers, E. D.
