He was appointed Plato Township Road Commissioner in 1987 and served 12 years, retiring in 1999. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; children, Caroline (Frank) Childers of Plato Center and Frederick W. Preceding him in death was a daughter, Barbara Ruth in 1959, his parents, and one brother, Albert. Burial was in the East Dundee cemetery. on September 3, 1980.⁶
