Previously, he had worked nine years in the Westfield Washington School System in Hamilton County, where he had been a principal. He was a graduate of Butler University and received a master's degree from Indiana University. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Windfall Masonic Lodge. Burial will be in Carmel Cemetery.
