(Alice) Tunnell of Roanoke, Va; two sisters, Mrs. M. P. (Virgie) Kirk and Mrs. O. P. (Lillian) Bailey, both of Bluefield; two brothers, Harry H. Kirby and John H. Kirby, both of Bluefield; eight grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Bluefield. on February 2, 1976.1

She and her husband moved to Chicago, Ill. in 1957 and lived there a number of years before moving back to Bluefield. Fredia has been a resident of Bramwell since 1985. In 1995, she ran for Bramwell Town council and won a seat. She was a licensed social worker and worked for the Mercer County Commission on Aging for 16 years, having an office in the senior center at the West Virginia Manor and was coordinator of the center. When she was laid off after 16 years of service and her office closed, she continued to help many seniors. She spent most of her retired life taking them to doctor appointments, grocery store or whatever their need was. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1971, Woodrow Shumate; a sister, Sarah Mildred Swaggerty and husband, Guy; a brother, Charles Phillip Thompson and wife Gwen. Survivors include her sister, Connie Bailey and husband Ernest of Princeton, W.Va; special niece, Beth Eden; special caregiver, Rebecca Conklin; special friends, Ann Foust, Gail Hutchins, Cheryl Mays. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where Michael Eden, Charles Matthew Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Frank Niece, Ernest Bailey and Jerry Shinault Jr. will serve as pallbearers. on February 3, 2012.3 She died on February 3, 2012 at Bluefield, Tazewell Co., Virginia, at age 84.10,2,3

She is survived by her sons, Charles Matthew Thompson and wife, Melva Gwen, of McComas and Kevin Henry "Hank" Thompson and wife, LeAnn, of Eure, N.C; daughters, Cora Yvette Thompson Gilliand, McComas and Elizabeth Anne Eden and husband, Michael, of Bluefield, Va; brothers, Alvin "Butch" Hall and Sybil of Asheville, N.C., and Douglas "Buster" Hall and wife, Cathy, of Mooresville, N.C; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Committal services will be held at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, Va. on December 3, 2003.2

Cora Yvette Thompson Cora Yvette Gilliand, age 51, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at her residence in Brushfork, W.Va. Cora was born on January 17, 1961 to the late Charles Phillip (Phil) Thompson and Gwendolyn Irene (Gwen) Thompson of McComas, W.Va. She was a 1979 graduate of Montcalm High School. Yvette grew up in a family that has a strong love of music. Yvette loved to sing and spent many hours together with her family singing and making music. Yvette also loved singing in her church choir when she attended Deliverance Temple Church in Brushfork, W.Va. Yvette was a hard worker and always kept a beautiful home for her family. She loved her home, and had great pride in it decorating the lawn with a menagerie of flowers, and kept the inside immaculate. Yvette is survived by her four children: Adam Wall of Montcalm, April Wall of Duhring, Cody Gilliand, and Derek Gilliand of the home. She has three grandchildren; Hayley Scaggs, Kelly Scaggs, and Kenneth Scaggs. Yvette is also survived by brothers: Matt Thompson and wife Gwen (Melva) of McComas, W.Va. and Kevin (Hank) Thompson and wife LeeArin of Eure, N.C. She is also survived by one sister: Beth Eden and husband Mike of Bluefield, Va. Yvette has five nieces: Audra Nicole of Clarksburg, W.Va; Kalla Thompson of McComas, W.Va; Ashley and Sarah Eden of Bluefield, Virginia; and Taylor Thompson of Eure, N.C. She also has three nephews: Wade Thompson and wife Heather of McComas,W.Va., Matthew Thompson Jr. of McComas, W.Va. and Trevor Thompson of Eure, N.C. Yvette also has one surviving aunt: Connie Bailey and husband Junior of Princeton, W.Va.
