Va., died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at the Estates of Oak Ridge, an assisted living community. Born July 11, 1922, in Charleston, W. Va., she worked for many years at the Naval Ordinance Plant in South Charleston, taking a medical retirement in 1960. She spent many years doing hospital volunteer work and helping others in her community. She was a member of New Hope Methodist Church in Marie, and while in Oak Ridge, was lovingly nurtured by St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, her family said. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vernon Gondola Mairs and her husband, Hamilton Klase Sharpe. Mrs. Sharpe is survived by her daughter, Carol A. Smith and husband, Paul E. Smith Jr., of Oak Ridge; two granddaughters, Sarah A. Smith of Nashville and Lori D. Roets and her husband, Tom, of Jacksonville, Fla; and two great-grandsons, Ryan Roets and Joshua Roets, both of Jacksonville. She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Elissa Cantrell and three step-grandchildren, Brian Cantrell, Erin Cantrell and Kevin Cantrell, all of Nitro, W. Va. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at New Hope Methodist Church in Marie. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery. on March 31, 2003.3

Randy was a professional poker player, traveling extensively for the best live games. His favorite place to play was Las Vegas. He loved the beach and ocean and was a former lifeguard at Wildwood-by-the-Sea, N.J., where he was also a restaurant/bar manager. His passions were poker and cars. At the time of his death, he was restoring a 1974 Bricklin. He loved life and lived it on his terms. Randy was a graduate of the St. Albans High School class of 1971 and attended Morris Harvey and Fairmont State colleges. He was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church where he was a member of Boy Scout Troop 50 and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Randy was preceded in death by his parents, David Riley Baker in 2000 and Norma Lee Baker in December 2001. He is survived by his sister, Janice L. Baker ; uncle, William W. Bragg of Charleston; and several cousins. At his request, he was cremated. A private service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.bartlettchapmanfuneralhome.com.
