D. She was born in Sigourney on Dec. 2, 1943, the daughter of Sam and Bertha Conner. She attended school in Sigourney. On May 3, 1965, she married Howard Baker in Bloomfield. They lived in Downing, Mo. for many years before moving to Beacon in 1990. She worked as a clerk for Brower Construction Company in Sioux City. She is survived by a daughter, Carla Miller of Des Moines; a son, Tracey of Kahoka, Mo; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Sandra Conner of Glenwood, Diana Garringer, Gwen Stull, Dottie Dobbins and Michele Vermillion all of Sigourney; a brother, Gerald of Beacon; her brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. No services are planned. Those who loved her will gather in her honor at a later time. Her body has been cremated. Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney was in charge of arrangements. on June 30, 2005.²

Surviving in addition to her parents are a sister, Robin R., at home; maternal grandmother, Alberta Conner, Cedar Rapids; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Conner, Richland; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Homire, Hiawatha; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Weaver, Union Town, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Redlinger, Detroit; Alma Conner, Sigourney; Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Homire, Keystone, and Mrs. and Mrs. Burdette Weisert, Vinton. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday in Zion Lutheran church in Hiawatha by the Rev. Larry E. Brelje. Burial: Cedar Memorial. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial funeral home after 5 p.m. Tuesday and at the church after 10 a.m. Thursday. The casket will be closed prior to the service. on February 18, 1975.¹

     Leo Leonard "Ike" Luense was buried at Cedar Memorial Park, Cedar Rapids, Linn Co., Iowa.⁴ He was born on June 11, 1913 at Marion Township, Linn Co., Iowa.^2,5,6 He married Helen Maxine Ainsworth, daughter of Harrison Kirk "Harry" Ainsworth and Sarah S. Knox, on May 8, 1937 at Cedar Rapids, Linn Co., Iowa; Leo's obit has the marriage year as 1936.^1,3,6 Leo Leonard "Ike" Luense died on November 12, 1972 at Cedar Rapids, Linn Co., Iowa, at age 59.⁶ He Leo L. "Ike" Luense, 59, former city councilman from the Third ward, died Sunday in a Cedar Rapids hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. He resided at 2170 Third avenue. He was born June 11, 1913, in Marion and lived here all of his life. He was employed by the Iowa Electric Light and Power Co., for 27 years and worked at a sub-station as an electrician. He was married Sept. 8, 1936, to Helen Ainsworth at Princeton, Ill. Mr. Luense served in World war II with the navy Seabees. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church and Marion post No. 298, American Legion. He served two terms, from 1954-58, as a city councilman. Survivors are his wife; two sons, Jim L., of St. Ansgar and Steve E. of Marion, and one grandchild. Services: St. Joseph's church Tuesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Justin A. Kane. The Rosary will be recited at the Baxter Memo rial chapel Monday at 7:30 p.m. Marion post will conduct military rites. on November 13, 1972.⁶

Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Springer; two sons, Larry and Jerry, both of Oskaloosa; one daughter, Mrs. James (Trudy) Hersh, St. Louis, Mo; four grandchildren and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Sparks, Oskaloosa. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the Garland Chapel, conducted by the Rev. William Griggs of the College Avenue Friends Church and the Rev. Clinton B. Meininger, First Christian Church. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. on November 30, 1970.³
