February 10, 1929. He served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Tarawa Essex Aircraft Carrier in the Northwest Pacific. Herb moved to Florida in 1944 residing in Jacksonville, Florida until 1970, Homestead, Florida until 1988 at which time he moved to Port Orange, Florida for his remaining years. He retired from the University of Florida Experimental Station in Homestead, Florida. Herb was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. VFW Post 1400, Knights of Columbus, Friends of the Port Orange Library, and the National Rose Society. Herb also volunteered his time over the years to many charitable organizations: St. Vincent DePaul, Big Brothers (Jacksonville), Port Orange Library, Floridas Sheriff Ranch, and the Humane Society. Herb will always be remembered for his generosity, giving of himself, his kind heart and for being a true gentleman. His hobby was growing roses. Herb enjoyed the sea and cruising the world up until his illness. He also enjoyed his daily jaunts to his favorite watering holes and the many friendships he developed over the years in these establishments. Herb is survived by his wife, Karen Craft Conord, Port Orange. on July 25, 2002.³
