James McLean Meeker married Shirley McLain on November 27, 1968. Surviving are: his wife, Shirley Meeker, of Covington; a step-son, Mary Hopper, of Covington, Indiana; a step-daughter, Christy Cooper of Covington, Indiana; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Nola) Trinkle of Veedersburg, Indiana; a brother, Norman Meeker, of Whitewater, Wisconsin; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at Shelby Funeral Home, on Thursday July 5, 1990 at 11:00 a.m. Services will be concluded with burial at Coal Creek Cemetery, Covington, Indiana. on July 5, 1990.3

McLain died on December 9, 2015 at Covington, Fountain Co., Indiana, at age 79.1 She Shirley "Shird" M. (McLain) Meeker, age 79, of Covington, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at the Waters of Covington. She was born in Stringtown, Ind., on Jan. 2, 1936, to the late Alta L. and Eva Z. (Stambaugh) McLain. She attended Covington High School and on Nov. 29, 1969 she married James M Meeker, who preceded her in death on July 3, 1991. Throughout the years, she worked at Covington MFG, Two D Industries and Steel Grip sewing factory, which she retired from after 48 years. She attended Grace Baptist Church. She enjoyed being with family and grandchildren, was an avid IU fan, a bowler at Sycamore Lanes for many years, and loved making Sunday dinners and holiday meals for the whole family. She is survived by her daughter, Christy (Michael) Cruse of Bloomingdale; sister, Barb Ramey of Covington; eight grandchildren, Christa (John) Doolin, Cara (Jeff) Tolbert Lane, Courtney Tolbert, Martin Hopper Jr., Bradley Hopper, Michael Cruse, Casey Cruse, and Seth Cruse; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; six brothers; and her son, Martin Sr. Family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 14, from 4-7 p.m. with the service following at 7 p.m. at First Assembly of God in Covington with Pastor Bob Fairchild officiating. Cremation will follow. on December 10, 2015.1

Payne April 30, 1947. Pauline was a very hard-working, strong-willed woman and valued her agricultural heritage. She was born, raised, operated and raised her family on the farm, which has been in her family since the deed was signed by John Quincy Adams. She also had worked as a private duty nurse and was a long-distance operator for Indiana Bell in Attica until the office closed. Pauline was a 10-year member of 4-H in her youth and never got away from being involved with the program. She encouraged and assisted her own children and grandchildren with their 4-H projects. Due to her declining health, this year's Fountain County fair cattle show was the first she missed.. She attended Newtown Community Church, where she served many years as financial secretary. She enjoyed Red Hatters, going to the Covington Senior Center and just received her 50-year pin for being a member of the Domestic Debs Home Economics Club. She visited weekly at the Sterling Church KIT Club and was a member of the Newtown American Legion Auxiliary. Pauline often served as a taxi for her many friends needing a ride. In her youth, she was a member of the Newtown Band. Surviving are four children, sons, Michael (Lena) Payne of Crawfordsville, Ind., and Edward (Kim) Payne of Attica, Ind; daughters, Pat (Jeff) Liggett of Newtown and Sandy (Kent) Payne of rural Veedersburg. Sixteen grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Preceding her were her parents and sister, Gladys Streit. Pauline's family will greet guests from 5-8 p.m. EDT Thursday, Sept. 13, at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, Ind. Funeral service at the funeral home: 11 a.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 14, with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Burial will follow in Union Christian Cemetery. on September 11, 2012.2
