Born Oct. 30, 1924, at Clendennin, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Tilden James Dustin and Lula Mae Estep Dustin McDonald. Frances was a homemaker and member of Mount Zion Methodist Church on Zion Mountain. "Our mother will be sadly missed. She was a devoted and loving Christian wife, mother and grandmother. Everyone who knew her loved her kind and gentle heart, and admired her devotion to the Lord." She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Preston Turner Jr; one son, Richard Dean Turner; grandson, Darrell Ray Turner Jr; two brothers, Roscoe and Wilbur Dustin; and two sisters, Rosalie Frame and Vada Statts. Soon after her marriage, she became a resident of Merryville, LA, where she raised her family. In August, 2010, she became a resident of Kinder Retirement and Rehabilitation Center. Sylvia devoted her life to her family. She will be remembered for her quilting, chocolate pies, and service to her church. Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Bo Doyle and wife Debbie of Groves, TX, Gary Doyle and wife Debbie of Merryville; four daughters, Adra Smith and husband Terry of Kinder, Sylvia Anne Doyle of Merryville, Karen Smith and husband Kenneth of Bon Wier, TX, and Mary Anderson and husband Andy of Garner, NC. She had 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lenard Doyle. Her funeral service were at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Merryville Pentecostal Church. Rev. T. L. Smith, Rod Nesmith, and Frank Kendall officiated.      Frank William "Bill" Dustin was buried at Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, Boone Co., West Virginia.5 He was born on February 24, 1930 at Blue Creek, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.3,4,5 He married Katherine Geraldine Kidd on May 28, 1964 at Sybial, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.4 Frank William "Bill" Dustin married Mary Magelene Webb on July 3, 1985 at Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia.3 Frank William "Bill" Dustin died on July 3, 2018 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 88.5 He Frank William “Bill” Dustin, was born February 24, 1930 and departed this life July 3, 2018 at the age of 88. He was born in Kanawha County to the late James Tilden and Lula May Dustin. He was a retired wall guard specialist and painter at CAMC Memorial Division with 30+ years of service. Bill loved the Lord more than anything. He attended Maranatha Fellowship in St. Albans where he was an usher until he became ill and then watched services on the internet. His love of his family came second. His desire to see each one of his family saved was a big burden that he carried. Bill could often be heard praying for each one to accept the Lord as their personal savior. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and brother. He especially loved to hunt and fish with his grandchildren. He also loved working on small engines and repaired many mowers for neighbors. Bill was always willing to help anyone in need. Surviving Frank are his loving wife Mary Dustin of Charleston, four sons and one daughter from a previous marriage; sons, Randy (Susan) of Lost Creek, Daniel of Mt. Vernon, OH, William Frank (Melissa “Tiny”) of St. Albans, Joel of South Carolina, and daughter; Donna Jones of St. Albans. He is also survived by three step-daughters; Donna (David) Kinser of Cross Lanes, Linda (Charles “Ed”) Lovejoy of Cross Lanes and Peggy Ferrell of St Albans; numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, two sisters, one brother and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Pastor Joe Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery, Orgas. on July 8, 2018.5

Randy had been a member of Sand Run Gospel Church since 1958, serving as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, song leader, and class leader. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in combat during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the following ribbons and medals: Combat Infantry Badge; Korean Service Medal, with two bronze service stars; the United Nations Service Medal; the Army Occupation Medal (Japan); and the National Defense Service Medal. He also served in the Army reserves. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Edward Hughart. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eva; daughters, Frances Hughart and Judy Stanley (Roy); grandsons, Lucas and Philip Stanley; great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Lilly Stanley; and many other relatives and friends. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Myers Funeral Home, Elkview, with the Reverends Tom Dodd and John Furry officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Myers Funeral Home, Elkview. Interment will be in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney, with military rites performed by the American Legion Post 61, Clendenin. A special thanks to Tiffany Falls, RN, who cared for Randy during his final hours. on December 3, 2010.2

Shafer, U.S. Army (Retired), passed away on Saturday, Sept. 11, 1993. Mr. Shafer was born in Clendenin, W.Va., Dec. 23, 1918. He retired to Pensacola 20 years ago after a distinguished military and civil service career. Mr. Shafer served his country during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations. During World War II, he served with the 1 54th Field Artillery Battalion and as a sergeant major with the occupation forces in Japan. Mr. Shafer was appointed a chief warrant officer in May of 1951 during service in the Korean Conflict. He earned a Bronze Star Medal for Valor during Korea. After service in Korea, Mr. Shafer served as an Army Intelligence officer until his retirement in October of 1964. His decorations include a Bronze Star Medal for Valor, World War II Victory Medal, Occupation Medal (Japan), Korea Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation (two awards), Army Commendation Medal (four awards), United Nations Service Medal with two Awards of Merit, Unit Emblem and a career full of numerous other citations and commendations. After his military retirement, Mr; Shafer was appointed an Intelligence area officer by the Chief of Staff for Army Intelligence and worked for the 902nd Military Intelligence Command Unit until his second retirement from civil service in December of 1972. Mr. Shafer was preceded in death by his loving wife, Orpha, son, Charles and daughter, Susie. He is survived by sons, Dr. Thomas Shafer, M.D., of Florence, Ala., Scott Shafer of Houston and Robert Shafer of Pensacola; daughters-in-law, Sussan, Emily and Rose; grandchildren; Melissa, David, Mark, Matthew and Mark; and caring and supportive friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church. Friends may call at the McNeil-Keys Funeral Home, 1380 N. Palafox St., from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 1 993. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1993, in Barrancas National Cemetery. Pastor Jerald L. Mantey will assist with the service. The family extends a deep sense of gratitude to Dr. Steven J. Schang Jr., M.D., his staff and Dr. J. Michael Plunkett, M.D., and his staff, for the skill, care, love and support provided to Quinton over the last 20 years. on September 13, 1993.2

Left behind to cherish his memories are his wife of 58 years, Nina Slack Furry; his children, John and his wife Clara of Woodbridge, Va., Kathryn and her husband Fred Adkins of Elkview, and Erra and his wife Rhonda of Quick; his grandchildren, Scott (Candace) Furry, Deena Furry, John Riley Furry, Aaron Adkins, Carrie (Clayton) Fletcher, Curtis (Ashley) Adkins, Misty Fuller, and Nathan Furry; his great-grandchildren, Vincent Vandine and Julian Ryker Fletcher; and many other relatives and friends. Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Myers Funeral Home in Elkview. The Rev. Lee Swor and John Furry will officiate. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home in Elkview. Interment will be at Elk Hills Memorial Park in Big Chimney with military rites performed by American Legion Post 61 of Clendenin.
