Born Nov. 12, 1921, in Monroe County, he was the son of the late Cceil and Rebecca Forren Saunders. Mr. Saunders was a lifelong resident of Organ Cave, a member of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church at Organ Cave, the VFW Ron-Lew Post No. 4940, was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served in France, England and Africa, including Normandy Beach and he retired from the Ronceverte Ice and Produce where he worked for 35 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Danny David Saunders on Feb. 18, 1950; a grandson, Adam Hunter in 1982 and a brother, Raymond Saunders. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Danese Elmore Saunders; seven daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Sandy) White of Fort Spring, Mrs. Richard (Hilda) White, Mrs. Steve (Cathy) Queen, Mrs. Steve (Elizabeth) O’Neil and Cora Hunter, all of Organ Cave, Jacqueline Saunders at home and Mrs. David (Jennifer) Morgan of Ronceverte; a brother, Aubrey Saunders of Second Creek; three sisters, Mary Bostic of Hollywood, Alma Boggs of Second Creek and Wilma Younkins of Delaware; 18 grandchildren, and 11 greatgrandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, Organ Cave, with Rev. Mark Flynn officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery, Organ Cave. on November 18, 1995.⁴
