According to Chief of Detectives, Billy Woodward, of the Onslow County Sheriff’s Department, Dodson and two civilian men got into a fight in the Howerton Apartments, Highway 17, south of Jacksonville, North Carolina. “He died of a brain concussion caused by a blow to the head with a soft drink bottle,” said Detective Woodward. Andrew Wilson, 19, was arrested and charged with murder. Another suspect, Ronnie Walker, was being sought. Born in Lorain Ohio, Lance Corporal Dodson attended Vermilion High School, Vermilion Ohio, prior to enlisting in the Marines. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in January, 1977, and underwent boot training at Parris Island, South Carolina. He received courses in basic plumbing and water supply at Camp Lejeune prior to being sent to Okinawa, where he was attached to the Third Marine Division. After returning from Okinawa, he reported for duty with the Second Engineer Battalion, based at Camp Lejeune. Survivors included his mother, Mrs. Sharon Boyd, Birmingham Ohio; his father, Andrew Dodson, Lorain Ohio; a brother, Andrew Jr., Vermilion Ohio; a half-sister, Marie Dodson, Lorain Ohio; a step-sister, Darlene Boyd; and step-brothers, Terry and Rick Boyd, all of West Virginia; grandmother, Mrs. Ruth Klinger, Vermilion Ohio; and grandfather, Allison Dodson, Erie Pennsylvania. Calling hours and services with military rites were held at the Fisher Funeral Home, Vermilion Ohio, with Reverend Robert Harmon of the Birmingham Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Birmingham Cemetery, Birmingham Ohio. on November 30, 1978.3

Marie was born January 27, 1931 in Lynch, PA. She was the daughter of Fed and Bess Slocum Knapp. She was a graduate of Bradford High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Clarion College. Marie taught English at Beaty Jr. High School and was the school librarian at Warren Area High School and then at Youngsville High School, from which she retired in 1994. Marie is survived by her daughter, Ann Perry of Menlo Park, CA, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Valerie Murphy of Bradford, PA and her husband of 36 years, Norman Perry, whom she married June 27, 1958. Due to current restrictions there will be no public visitation or service at this time. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park. on March 24, 2020.2

Silvis died on April 9, 2018 at Warren, Warren Co., Pennsylvania, at age 79.2 He Edward L. Silvis, 79, of Warren died Monday, April 9, 2018, at the John & Orpha Blair Hospice House. Ed was born July 31, 1938, in Kane, PA. He was the son of the late L. Peter LeRoy and Signe (Lundburg) Silvis. He served in the Army from 1963 to 1965 as an Armor Intel Specialist and earned his Sharpshooter badge. Upon returning to the area, Ed was employed by Rexnord Industries for many years. He was a member of Pleasant Community Church. Ed loved to travel. He and his wife, Shirley, visited the Panama Canal, Mt. Denali and Mt. Whitney in Alaska, the Hoover Dam, Lake Superior, and numerous European countries. Ed was an avid bicycler and runner and was a member of the YMCA. He was also an extremely gentle and generous man who will be greatly missed. One summer, Ed and Shirley covered the cost for each child who attended the church’s Vacation Bible School to receive a Bible. Ed is survived by his brother, Kenneth H. Silvis, of Bear Lake, PA; three nephews, Roy, Shawn, and Jeffrey Silvis; as well as his church family and friends. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death on April 25, 2016, by his wife, Shirley A. (Dykes) Silvis, whom he married May 26, 1972, at the First Church of the Nazarene, in Warren; and a brother, Larry A. Silvis. A private burial service will be held at Barnes Cemetery, with Rev. Michael Poindexter, pastor, Pleasant Community Church, officiating. on April 10, 2018.2
