     Dennis Dean Eye was buried at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane, Putnam Co., West Virginia.³ He was born on April 30, 1954 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.^4,2,3 He married Jacqueline Ann Shockey, daughter of Jack Shockey and Doris Jean Paris, circa 1983.^1,2,3 Dennis Dean Eye died on May 10, 2008 at West Virginia at age 54; The SSDI has a death date of May 11, 2008.^4,2,3 He Dennis Dean Eye went on his own terms to be with the Lord on May 10, 2008, after suffering a long, painful illness. He was born on April 30, 1954, in Charleston to Naomi Eye and the late Osbra Eye . Dennis was a Christian, a loving husband, father, son, brother, and an avid athlete. He was also an outdoorsman, having grown up in Kanawha State Forest where his father was superintendent for many years. He loved cats, both house pets and ones of the wild, and sorely missed his "little buddy Macy." A 1972 graduate of George Washington High School, Dennis attended Marshall University on a track scholarship, and he held the record for the 800-meter dash for more than 20 years after his 1976 graduation. While at Marshall, Dennis also started boxing competitively and soon became a Golden Gloves champion. Before his illness, Dennis had resumed competitive running and participated successfully in several local 5K road races. A hard worker even as a young teen caddying at Berry Hills Country Club, Dennis worked for several years for Charleston Parks and Recreation at North Charleston Community Center and he also worked for several years at General Technologies in St. Albans. He later worked as a maintenance mechanic at Great Lakes in Nitro until the plant closed. He had most recently worked at Putnam General Hospital. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Jackie; his dear daughter, Katie; his mother, Naomi Eye of Shady Spring; his brother, Mark and his wife, Lisa, of Beckley; his four sisters, their husbands, and their families, Jeanne and Charlie Moses of Cross Lanes, Rose and Timmy Brown of St. Albans, Debbie and Joe Sloan of Colquitt, Ga., and Sherry and Fred Gay of Virginia Beach, Va. He also shared a close relationship with his in-laws, Bonnie and Colonel Howie Hill of Hurricane, David Shockey of Oak Hill, Doris Shockey of Fayetteville, and Catherine and Arden Gravely of Oak Hill. Dennis is also survived by his uncles, Herbert Eye and Jimmy Eye and their families. on May 13, 2008.²

Porter, 86, of 310 Pontiac St., died at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday in his home. Mr. Porter was a car salesman, retiring in 1971 from Fleger Motors and Dick Moore Pontiac in West Virginia. He was born April 16, 1909, in Winifred, W.Va. On April 17, 1947, in Little Rock, Ark., he married Mildred Shockey. She survives with three daughters, Betty Jean Bailes of Charleston, W.Va., Karen Rollins of Ligonier and Pam Johnston of Cromwell; three sons, Charles A. and James, both of Ligonier, and Michael of Oak Hill, W.Va; 10 grandchildren: and two great-grandchildren. He was a member of West Noble American Legion Post 243. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Fayetteville. on March 14, 1996.⁷

Born Jan. 2, 1949, in Charleston, he was the son of Marjorie Mildred Shockey Porter of Ligonier, Ind., and the late Charles H. Porter. He was raised on Cabin Creek at Eskdale and graduated from East Bank High School in 1967. Mr. Porter served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a SP4. He had a great love for his dogs, horses and farm animals. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his daughter, Angela Dawn Porter of Victorville, Calif; son, Robert Dale Porter of Victorville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Andrew "Chuck" and Carolyn Porter and James Randall "Jim" and Vicki Porter, all of Ligonier; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Bailes of Charleston, Karen Rollins of Ligonier, Pam and Johnny Johnston of Cromwell; 10 nieces and nephews, Charles E. "Scott" Porter, Aimee Ray, Dani Rollins, Sean Rollins, Christopher Johnston, Jimmy Porter, Andy Porter, Savannah Porter, Evan Porter and Jack Bailes; three grandsons, Jonathan Porter, Zachary Porter and Jacob Porter; and three great-nephews, Brandon Ray, Noah Ray and Isaac Michael "Ikey Mikey" Porter. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Route 1, Fayetteville, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 3110, Oak Hill. on June 29, 2003.²

     Verla Beth Smith Funeral services for Verla Beth Davis Powers, 59 of Arapaho, held Monday, December 7, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Arapaho, Loyd Hall, and Van Leonard will be officiating. Services will be under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home, and burial followed in the Arapaho Cemetery. Verla was born May 15, 1956 in Sentinal, Oklahoma, to Virgil Neal, and Viola J. (Shockey) Smith, and passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015, in her home in Arapaho. Verla was raised in Clinton, and graduated from Clinton High School in 1975. She married Leon Powers in October of 1993, in Oklahoma City. She was a homemaker, and loved sewing, quilting, fishing, and especially hanging out with her kids. She was preceded in death by both parents, and her husband. She was survived by her daughter, Lori Beth Murphy, of Arapaho, her son Adam Bieberich, of Clinton, her step son James Davis, of Arapaho, 3 Sisters Velda Jo Sams, of West Virginia, Vonna Sue Phillips, of Clinton, and Vivian Rose Stockton, of Clinton, and a brother Virgil Lee Smith, of Clinton, and 8 grandkids.² She was buried at Arapaho Cemetery, Arapaho, Custer Co., Oklahoma.² She was born on May 15, 1956 at Sentinel, Washita Co., Oklahoma.² As of July 24, 1974,her married name was Bieberich.³ She married Stephen R. Bieberich on July 24, 1974 at Wheeler Co., Texas.³ As of October, 1993,her married name was Powers.² Verla Beth Smith married Leon Powers in October, 1993 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co., Oklahoma.² Verla Beth Smith died on December 2, 2015 at Arapaho, Custer Co., Oklahoma, at age 59.²
