Born Feb. 24, 1930, at Pipestem, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andrew Thomas and Violet Marie Hill. Mr. Hill was a retired mechanic and a member of Victory Baptist Church, Airport Road, Beaver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rose Amos Hill, in 1990; by a son, Charles L. Hill; by a brother, Kermit E. Hill; and by a sister, Elva Katherine Hill. Surviving are his two sons, Carl Douglas “Doug” Hill and his wife, Pamela, of Crab Orchard, and William Eugene “Bill” Hill and his wife, Rebekah, of Shady Spring; two brothers, Steven David Hill of Locust Grove, Ga., and Homer Lee Hill of Daniels; three sisters, Sylvia Marie Maddox of August, Ga., Lucille Hackney of Shady Spring, and Drema Gaye McBain of Machesney Park, Ill; and nine grandchildren, Brandy, Ian, Jessica, Mary, Abigail and Hannah Hill, Krista, Megan and Matthew Rock. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. on July 18, 2007 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.5

She served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed in Washington, D.C. She worked for the Los Angeles Times from 1937 to 1942, and later worked for the Department of Human Services in California and Oregon. Survivors include a son, Stephen of Eugene; a daughter, Anne Pfaff of Portland; and two grandchildren. Private inurnment will be at Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River. Arrangements by Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield. on January 7, 2012.1
