     Elizabeth Lolah Smith Elizabeth L. Smith Poff Sigler, 88, former Johnsville resident, died Friday morning May 19, 2006 in her Silver Springs, Florida home following a short illness. She was born October 15, 1917 in Pulaskiville to William Harrison and Florence Anna (Allen) Smith, and was graduated from Johnsville High School in 1935. Elizabeth worked 35 years as a nurse, first in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital, and later in the former Madison Hospital. She retired from the former Peoples Hospital in the late 1970s with 25 years of service. Following her retirement, she began spending winters in Bokeelia, Florida and moved to Silver Springs, Florida, permanently in the early 1980s. She attended the Johnsville Grace United Methodist Church. Early in her life, Elizabeth had enjoyed her bowling leagues, and more recently liked to go fishing, or spend an afternoon at the dog tracks. An avid reader of romance and Indian novels, she also enjoyed crossword puzzles and any opportunity to play Bingo or Euchre. She will be remembered for loving kindness, and a few jokes. Her cooking will be sorely missed ~ especially her homemade noodles and lemon meringue pie. Her family will not forget the many sacrifices Elizabeth made… “so that her children never went without, even when she did.” She is survived by daughters and a son-in-law Patricia Clapper of Lexington, Ruth Marie Poff of Silver Springs, Florida, Mollie and Roy Rogers of Lexington and Karen Lee Watkins of Lexington; a step daughter and her husband Pat and Jack Ruby of Ashland; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands Henry Poff, Charles Scheidler, and Paul Sigler; her son Jimmy Poff; a son-in-law James Clapper; a step son Robert Sigler; a great grandson Chance Castle; three brothers Walter, Bill and Dwight Smith; her parents; and her aunt and uncle who raised her Irma and Homer Snyder.
