He had resided in Florida for several years. He was married in 1922 to Lois Radcliff, who died in 1928. In 1930, he married Fern Limberry who preceded him in death in 1951. Surviving are two sons, Walter Hammond of Orleans and Harold L. "Nicky" Hammond of Brea, Calif; a half sister Mrs. Ivy Lloyd of Hardinsburg, two half brothers, Kenneth Patton of Louisville and Lawrence Patton. Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. on September 28, 1976.³

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 1 brother, Walter of Indiana. He is predeceased in death by his son, Patrick.
