May 10th, 2009 in the Knox County General Hospital. He was the son of the late Beckham & Sydna (Allen) Garland and was born to them on September 7th, 1948. Mr. Garland was President and CEO of G&M Oil Corporation, Mountain Ridge Drilling, and Garland Restaurants. He was a former Knox County Coroner having served a total of sixteen years first from 1986 until 1993 then again in 1999 until 2006, he also was a member of the Barbourville Fire Dept. for sixteen years from 1980 until 1996. He was a veteran of the National Guard and was a member of the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, singing, woodworking, Nascar, and spending time with family & friends. His parents Beckham & Sydna Garland, three brothers Franklin Garland, Jakie Garland, and Donnie Garland, one granddaughter Sydni Elizabeth Kathryn Corey and one brother in-law Vance Mills, precede him in death. Left to mourn his passing is his loving fiancé Marilyn Baker of Bimble, KY, his former wife Kathy Sue Garland of Barbourville, KY and their three children, Donna Rejai (Garland) Corey & husband Jeff, Becky Sue (Garland) Miller & husband Kevin, and Jerry Wayne Garland II & wife Lorrie all of Bimble, KY, one sister Marie Mills of Barbourville, KY, six grandchildren William Jeremy Micah Corey, Jakob Sawyer Charles Corey, Marlee Kate Miller, John Kevin Grant Miller, Jayci Elizabeth Rajai Corey and Jakob Daniel Garland and one sister inlaw Irene Garland. Mr. Garland also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Garland will be in the Conway Boatman Chapel at Union College on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Cleo Goodlet, Rev. Sylvester Dunn and Mike Corey will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Alva Patterson, Mike Howard, Greg Helton, J.M. Hall, Joey Thompson, Lyle Daniels, David Bruner, and Robert Wyatt. Honorary Pallbearers Jeff Corey, Kevin Miller, Micah Corey, Sawyer Corey, Grant Miller, Jake Garland, Jimmy Smith, Gary Magard, Richie Miller, and Kenny Miller, also the family & friends of G&M Oil, Mountain Ridge Drilling & Garland Restaurants. Mr. Garland will be laid to rest in the Hawn Cemetery at Bimble. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements. Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. And at the Conway Boatman Chapel after 11:00 a.m. on Thursday until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.4 He and Kathy Sue Johnson were divorced.4 Jerry Wayne Garland married Kathy Sue Johnson.2 Jerry Wayne Garland was born on September 7, 1948 at Knox Co., Kentucky.3,5,4 He died on May 10, 2009 at Knox Co., Kentucky, at age 60.2,5,4

Wanda was the daughter of Lucy Mirick Smith and the late Carl Smith born to them on November 18, 1952 in Knox County, Kentucky. Wanda was the owner and operator of Wanda's Florist for over six years. Wanda was a former member of the Sinking Valley Baptist Church and later became a member of the Salem Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Barbourville High School. On November 8, 1970, she united in marriage with Dee Hughes. Along with her father Carl, she was preceded in death by one brother,Leroy Smith and one sister, Christine Gross. Wanda is survived by her husband, Dee Hughes of Barbourville, Kentucky; two daughters, Carla Hinkle and husband Kenneth of Artemus, Kentucky; and Cindy Carnes and husband Mike of Heidrick, Kentucky; her three grandchildren, Kenzie Elizabeth Hinkle, Braxton Michael Carnes and Gavin Cole Hinkle; her mother, Lucy Smith of Barbourville, Kentucky; one brother, Ken Smith and wife Wanda of Barbourville, Kentucky; her sister, Stella Warner and husband Dale of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her other sisters; her aunts, Sally Mathis of Louisville, Kentucky, and Ellen Potter of Boone Height; her special friends, Charlotte Bingham, Ann Bain and Carolyn Smith. Funeral services for Wanda Smith Hughes were conducted in Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, April 6, 2007 at 1 p.m. with Rev, Sylvester Dunn and Rev. B.F. Jackson officiating. Burial followed in the Barbourville Cemetery with Kenneth Hinkle, Mike Carnes, Dale Warner, Curtis Trent, Ancil Hall, Fred Bays, Don Blevins and Roger Hughes serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the Knox County Ambulance Service, nurses at the Knox County Hospital and the Kentucky State Police.
