Ida Eldora Main1,2

F, b. July 1, 1859, d. July 10, 1930
Ida Eldora Main Ida Eldora Main, daughter of William F. and Susan A. Carsol Main, was born July 1st, 1859, in Taylor township, Appanoose county, Ia., the second of a family of four children. At the age of two years, she went with her parents to Ripley county, Indiana, where she spent her early childhood, returning to Appanoose county, Iowa, when she was nine years old, and lived with the family at the old brick house on what is known as "The Uncle Billy Main Place," one mile north of Main Station. She became a member of the Christian Church of Antioch, when she was eighteen years old and had never changed her church affiliations. She was married to Francis Allen McKern, July 25th, 1880, and reared a family of seven children: Charles, Gertrude, Nancy, Elsie, Elgie, Archibald and Raymond. Her husband and two children, Nancy and Raymond having preceded her in death. She spent all of her married life in the vicinity of Main Station and Moravia, excepting two years near Mt. Ayr in Ringgold county, Iowa, where she has many relatives and friends. She had spent practically the last thirty years of her life on the home farm at Main Station, except for a short residence in Moravia. She was ill but a short time before her death which occurred at St. Joseph hospital at Centerville, Iowa, where she had been taken because of the serious condition of her heart, which caused her death, Thursday morning, July 10th, 1930, at the age of 71 years and 9 days. Her brother Albert and her two sisters, Mary and Laura, had preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons and three daughters, 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Her surviving children are: Charles McKern, Rockford, Ill; Mrs. Gertrude Robinson, Corydon, Iowa; Mrs. Elgie Sanders, Unionville, Iowa; Mrs. Elsie Wales, Main Station, Iowa; W. A. McKern, Centerville, Iowa. She had taken cheerfully the hardship and toil that was known by all of her generation and was ever willing to help her neighbors and her friends. Her sterling qualities are known too well by her friends to need telling. In her last illness her Mother's heart was more concerned for the "sick babies", at the hospital than for herself. Another "Mother" of this world has gone - and to those who knew and loved ... Mother, her place in their ... can never be filled.2 She was buried at Main Station Cemetery (also known as Fairview Cemetery), Maine, Appanoose Co., Iowa.3 She was born on July 1, 1859 at Taylor, Appanoose Co., Iowa.4,2 As of July 25, 1880,her married name was McKern.1 She married Francis Allen 'Frank" McKern, son of William McKern and Nancy Faulkner, on July 25, 1880 at Marion Co., Iowa.1,2 Ida Eldora Main died on July 10, 1930 at Centerville, Appanoose Co., Iowa, at age 71.2

John A. Buchan was born in June, 1839 at Ohio.5 He married Mary McKern, daughter of William McKern and Nancy Faulkner, on March 12, 1882 at Marion Co., Iowa.1 John A. Buchan died on July 6, 1926 at Santa Monica, Los Angeles Co., California, at age 87.3,4 He Santa Monica, July 6 - Serenely setting his few small affairs in order J. A. Buchan, a Civil War veteran 87 years of age, yesterday sat down to die in his home at 650 Copeland Court, where he lived with his son J. E. Buchan, and the latter's family. His son had gone to Ocean Park to cash his pension check and procure supplies. Because of failing eyesight the aged veteran seldom left the house. In his son's absence he wrote a note saying that if he tried to live after going blind it would be harder for both himself and his son to get along. "God bless your little family" he wrote, and then penned bequests to his grandchildren. To Eugene he left his ring, to Richard his watch, and to Harry his pocket knife. His son returned to find him dead in his chair, a bullet wound in the right temple and a .25 caliber automatic lying on the table. Lieut. Bray and police officers Clark and Greer investigated. on July 7, 1926.4

Marion Albert "Bert" Conrey Night Officer Bert Conrey succumbed to injuries sustained two weeks earlier when he was severely beaten by an intoxicated couple who were walking on Main Street, between 1st Street and 2nd Street. The couple were acting disorderly and Officer Conrey confronted them, at which time he was punched and kicked by the married couple. The couple was arrested and charged with murder after Officer Conrey died two weeks later. They were originally convicted of second degree murder, but later pleaded guilty to manslaughter after the murder conviction was overturned. They were both sentenced to eight years in prison. Officer Conrey had served with the Knoxville Police Department for 23 years. He was survived by his wife and eight children.5 He On March 17, 1938, Marion “Bert” Conrey was serving as a police officer with the Knoxville Police Department. While on routine patrol that night, Officer Conrey encountered an intoxicated couple. Officer Conrey advised the couple to go home and moments later, they attacked him, knocking him to the ground, kicking him in the head. Officer Conrey was hospitalized in critical condition and on April 2, he died as a result of the severe head injuries he suffered. The attackers were subsequently charged with and convicted of second degree murder. The verdict was later overturned by the Iowa Supreme Court and the attackers entered a plea of manslaughter in lieu of a new trial. At the time of his death, Officer Conrey had served for a total of 23 years as a law enforcement officer.2 He was buried at Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, Marion Co., Iowa.2 He was born on November 11, 1881 at Knoxville, Marion Co., Iowa.1,2,4 He married Ella Athalia Moore on February 8, 1904.3 Marion Albert "Bert" Conrey died on April 2, 1938 at Knoxville, Marion Co., Iowa, at age 56.2
