Mr. Pugh was born May 15, 1926, in Roanoke, VA, to the late Steve and Rosetta (Hall) Pugh. Mr. Pugh served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater, as a gunner on TBM Avenger, flying off the aircraft carrier Shangri-La. Ed graduated from Virginia Tech, in 1951, with an Industrial Engineering degree. He worked for E.I DuPont Co. for 34 years. Ed was a member of Lima United Methodist Church and a former member of the American Legion and Lions Club. He was an artist and enjoyed gardening, playing golf and wood working. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, R. Arlene (Reed) Pugh; daughter, Deborah P. (Ted) Keinath; son, Gary M. (Wendy) Pugh; grandchildren, Amy (Nick) Lewandowski, Rachel Pugh and Kevin (Colleen) Keinath. Graveside service 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Edgewood Memorial Park, Glen Mills, Pa. A lifelong resident of Kanawha County, she was a member of Missionary Baptist Church in South Park. Surviving are her husband, John; three sons, Gilbert, William, and Wesley Jacobs, all of Charleston; a brother, Arnold Carte of St. Albans; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Brillhart of Charleston: and 11 grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0200 in Charleston, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5269 at Witcher, a member of Local No. 175 of the Teamsters, a member of the Pratt-Hansford Lions Club and he was retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Charleston. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, William L. Jacobs Jr and Reba of Kenna; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nancy and Jerry Thomas of South Charleston, Nina Smith of South Charleston, Nena and Butch Rife of Charlotte, N.C; loving brother, Gilbert L. Jacobs of Charleston; companion, Garnet Bailey Melvin of Handley; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. An extended family include Mary and Jerry Thomas and their son, Danny of Handley, Lee Melvin of Handley, ElainPoca, W3f oe and Randy Strickland and their daughter, Michelle of Charlotte, N.C. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at O'Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery with the Rev. Jerry Shinn officiating. Jacobs died on January 24, 2005 at Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 80.^2,3 He Gilbert L. Jacobs, 80, born in Kanawha County in 1924, died Jan. 24, 2005, after heart surgery. He was a World War II veteran and retired from McLean Trucking Company. Surviving him are sons and their wives, Gilbert Jr. and Goldie of Charleston, Gary and Linda of Poca and Roger of Kanawha City; and many grandchildren. He also left behind an abundance of friends. Gilbert requested that there be no service, but remember him as the kind and fun person he was. on January 25, 2005.³
