She was born December 23, 1929 to the late John Wilder Sloan and Flora Ethel Nida Sloan. She leaves behind 2 of her 4 children, Connie (David) Samples and Victoria Gallagher. Mae has joined her 10 brothers, Billy, Archie, Melton, Eugene, Alfred, John, Lovell, Carl, Emmett and Louis; sister, daughter, Sandra Kaye; and son, Richard in her heavenly home. She had 5 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren whom loved her dearly. She will be placed in her final resting bed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.2 Her married name was Burdette.1 She and Thurman Clyde Burdette were divorced.3 Edith Mae Slone was born on December 23, 1929 at West Virginia.2 She died on November 8, 2021 at West Virginia at age 91.2

He was born April 13, 1925 at Indian Mills, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. William Trail. He was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Farley and three brothers, Don R. Trail, Virgil Trail and an infant William Trail. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary S. “Tommy” Trail. Son, Stephen D. Trail of Hinton and daughters, Marilyn Kay Meador & husband Kenneth of Jumping Branch and Vana K. Trail of Beckley. Grandson, Stephen Douglas Trail, Jr. of Hinton and granddaughter, Alison Paige Steele of Durham, NC and his best friend, Heidi, his miniature schnauzer. Van was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He was a member of LCI 320 at the Normandy Invasion and was serving in Japan when the war ended. He also served as Commanding Officer of the Hinton National Guard before accepting a position at the Pentagon. He was a graduate of the War College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and also Commander of the Officers Candidate School at Washington, DC. Van was a graduate of Talcott High School and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed working on his farm for many years during his retirement. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday November 17, 2013 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Butch Honaker and Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of services on Sunday at the funeral home. Born June 24, 1926, in Princeton, he was the son of the late Martin Luther Howell Sr. and Edna Mae Smith Howell. Mr. Howell was a graduate of Princeton High School, and was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. Mr. Howell's career with the railroad spanned for more than 44 years, having worked for the Virginian Railroad, Norfolk and Western Railroad and retiring from the Norfolk Southern Railroad as a signal foreman. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Signals. Mr. Howell was a simple man, he enjoyed his garden, fishing and hunting, building bird houses, being outdoors and collecting trains. Early in his life, he along with his sisters sung on the Princeton Radio Station for several years. While his health permitted, he attended Painters Chapel United Methodist Church at Speedway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life of 60 years, Mary Emmaline Hill Howell; a daughter-in-law, Donna S. Howell; and a son-in-law, Keith Danieley. He was also preceded in death by four siblings, Emma Craig, Elva Kendrat, Alma Jean Stewart, and Margaret Craig. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Those left to cherish his memory, six children, Michael Reed Bailey and wife Kathy of Delaware, Martin Edward Howell and friend Janet Holliday, Kenneth "Jerry" Howell all of True, Regina Carol Danieley, Timothy Wayne Howell and wife Ellen all of Pipestem, and Thomas Kevin Howell and wife Melissa of Charlotte North Carolina; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Tommy Mounts officiating. Military graveside services will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, under the direction of the West Virginia Honor Guard and the Mercer County Veterans Council. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from noon until the service hour at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The Howell family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton. on January 8, 2013.3
