"Bill" Bailey died on September 2, 2017 at La Grande, Union Co., Oregon, at age 101.2,3 He William Bailey died peacefully Sept. 2, 2017, at Angeline Senior Living in La Grade, surrounded by his family. He had recently celebrated his 101st birthday Aug. 10 eating chocolate cake and enjoying his family. Bill was born Aug. 10, 1916, in John Day, Ore., to Harry and Mayme (Yokom) Bailey. he grew up on a ranch near Mt. Vernon, Ore. He had a sister, Lola, or John Day, with whom he had a close relationship. He married Cecil Mae (Cec) McKern in Lewiston, Idaho, in 1939. They moved to Golden, Idaho where he worked in a railroad shop. When World War II began, he thought he would be called up, so he wanted to move Cec closer to home. They move to Hines, Ore., where he worked in a sawmill. Next they moved to Seneca, Ore., and he and brother-in-law Ernie Coots hauled Logs for Hines Lumber Co. Later, Ernie started a logging company, and Bill went to work for him hauling logs around Roseburg and Lakeview. Around 1947, Bill, Cec, Ernie, Dorothy and Lana Coots moved to Joseph where Bill continued to log for Ernie. Around 1953 Ernie bought a ranch at Imnaha. When he passed away in 1965, Bill ran the ranch for Dorothy until it was sold in 1996. Bill and Cec lost two sons at birth, but their niece, Lana, was like their own child. They were married 62 years when Cec passed away in 2001. Bill was a member of the Elks and Masonic lodges, a Shriner and member of Oregon Cattlemen's Association. He was honored as cattleman of the year in 1973. He also loved to hunt and fish and probably got more than his limit on most occasions. He liked vacationing, picnicking and mushrooming with his family. He loved gardening and had a wonderful raspberry patch and grew cherries. Bill is survived by his niece, Lana (J.R.) of enterprise; another niece, Connie (Bruce) of Albany, Ore; a nephew Jeff (Kelly) of Albany; great nieces, Andrea (Tony) and Amy of Enterprise; Great nieces and nephews, Julie, Dennis and Kevin of California and numerous others. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, sister Lola and nephew Merlyn Black. Services will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 19 at Joseph Methodist Church. A luncheon will follow at the church. Bollman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. on September 12, 2017.3

George was born on December 4, 1917 12 miles north of Enterprise in Leap country to James and Amanda Justice. They moved to Enterprise in 1922. He attended the Enterprise school, graduating in 1936. He served as president of IGA Chapter, student body president, and state FFA president. He played basketball, football and baseball. He attended Oregon State in 1937-38. After college, he married Pearl Weathers Haggerty in 1939. Son Gerome "Jerry" was born in 1940. That same year, he went to work for the county road department, starting as a truck driver, bridge crew helper and ditch digger. He then advanced to shop mechanic and up to shop foreman. In 1944, he entered the army. He was a Sgt. Tec. 4, 6th Combat Battalion. He took basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif. and motor school also. He later went to Fort Benning, Georgia for advanced motor school. He also served in the Philippine Islands and South Korea. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Papan medal. He was discharged in 1946. When returning home, George worked for the county road department until July of 1950, the last 2 years as county Road Master. Then he bought the Western Gamble Store (later Western Auto) with partner Ray Johnson. He and Pearl bought Ray out in 1953. Pearl contracted cancer in 1964 and passed away in 1967. Son, Jerry passed away in 2000. In November of 1968, he married Dorothy Coots. During their time together, he worked a few years as the Wallowa County Appraiser, later retiring. Dorothy passed away in 1993. George liked to golf, hunt, fish, go mushrooming and dancing with Dorothy. He also served on the Enterprise City Council, Exalted Ruler of Enterprise Elks Lodge, District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, Life Member B.P.O.E. #1829, AF-AM life member, VFW Post #4307 life member. In later years, he had Beverly Homan as his companion and enjoyed many happy times with her and her family. After Bev passed away, her family remained very close to George. He lived at Alpine House the last 4-1/2 years and loved the staff there and remarked many times how good they were to him. George's daughter Lana and family all agree that he was one of a kind; the kindest, most loving, funny, generous, knowledgeable and positive person they ever knew and an awesome historian. Like one friend said, they broke the mold when they made George. He was our Georgie Porgie and Laurie and Linda Bollman's. You will be loved and missed until we meet again, Poppa George. Survivors include his daughter, Lana and husband J.R. Arnold, granddaughters Andrea Nice and Amy Ogden and husband Sherman, Tara Justice and husband Rick, brother-in-law, Bill Bailey, and sister-in-law Harryette Anderson and husband Erle, and 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson, plus numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests donations to Wallowa County Home Health, the American Cancer Society or charity of choice. on August 1, 2012.3

Mr. Tanler died of a heart attack on May 23, 1974. Survivors include his widow, the former Carol Timms, who became his wife Oct. 14, 1946, in Stevenson, Wis. on June 25, 2003.2

After her husband Keith passed, Frances later married Joe Odlivak. Frances passed away on June 5, 2017 and is now reunited with her son Keith and granddaughter Leah. She will be remembered at a graveside service for family and friends at Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise, Idaho at 11:00 a.m. on June 13, 2017. on June 11, 2017.1

Funeral services were held from the Driskill Mortuary chapel in John Day, Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Josie Bach. Interment was in the Canyon City cemetery. on October 8, 1943.1
