Wanda June Hudson1,2,3

F, b. March 21, 1938, d. December 24, 2014
Wanda June Hudson was buried at French Cemetery, Davis Creek, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.2,3 She was born on March 21, 1938 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.2,3 As of November 7, 1956,her married name was Paxton.1 She married Thomas Ray Paxton, son of Melvin Malcolm Paxton and Missouri Hazel Patton, on November 7, 1956 at Belle, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.1 Wanda June Hudson died on December 24, 2014 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 76.2,3 She Where do I begin to tell the story of how great a love can be? The sweet love story that is older than the sea; the simple truth about the love she brought to me. Where do I start? Tough question and not just for me, but also for all of us whom she loved. Wanda June (Hudson) Paxton, 76, was the 12th of 16 children of Harvey Monroe Hudson and Ina Carrie Means Hudson. She was born at home on March 21, 1938 in Charleston, West Virginia. She died from complications of Dementia at Hubbard Hospice House on December 24, 2014 and was carried to heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There she joins her parents, ten siblings, and a great-grandson, Richard Sprouse, Jr., and many other relatives and friends who preceded her in death and beat her to the prize. Of course, the prize is available to all who accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord. She had a stressful life in many ways, but she was a hard worker and continues to educated herself and raise the standard of living for herself and her two children. Wanda attended South Charleston High School with the Class of 1956. At a very early age, she began to earn money babysitting and cleaning houses. When she was old enough to get a work permit she worked in town at Valley Bell Ice Cream, Newberry's Department Store, etc. She graduated from Charleston School of Cosmetology and was a fantastic beautician for several years at Norma's in Charleston and JoAnn's Salon in Dunbar. Later she took a job at Peter Pan Cleaners in South Hills, after which she moved to the laundry at CAMC. While there she studied and worked her way through LPN-CP School. She was a great nurse retiring with nearly thirty years of service with Charleston Area Medical Center, moving between CAMC Memorial, CAMC General, and CAMC Women's and Children's Hospital. During these years, she also worked part-time at Highland Hospital. After retiring from CAMC she went to work for Hospice Care. She was an in-home nurse and worked in several counties in our region. She loved Hospice and felt it was "a true caling from God." Unfortunately, she was forced to retire after about ten years, due to leukemia, which broke her heart. It is very fitting that her final days were spent at Hubbard Hospice House. She is survived by her son, Robert Ray Paxton and his wife Cheryl, and their children: Melinda Paxton Thornton and her husband, Johnathan, and their children, Steven, Michael, and Samantha; and son, Dakota (Cody) Paxton. Also surviving is her daughter Angela Dawn Paxton Dowell Knapp and her children and grandchildren: Crystal Dowell Carter and her children, Lindsey and Robert "Bobby" Carter; James (Jimmy) Dowell and his wife, Nishi Patel Dowell; and their daughter, Samyia; Kimberly Dowell Sprouse and husband Richard Sprouse. She is also survived by sisters: Marth Ruth Poehlman and husband Howard in Michigan; Corrine (Corky) Shumway in Wisconsin; Patty Hudson Casto of Charleston; Margy Hudson Stockton and her husband "Dick" of Charleston; Claudia Hudson-Sims and her husband Tom, also of Charleston; and by sisters-in-law: Cora Duley Hudson of Dunbar and Becky Phipps of Alum Creek. Many, many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; cousins and others survive her and will miss her more than words can say. She is a real hero in our eyes. Now she will be catching up with all who preceded her in death, if they were saved and waiting in heaven. The family sends sincere thanks to those who have been very helpful in her care, including especially her sister Margy, and her husband Dick Stockton, with whom she made her final home on earth. Also to Claudia-Hudson Sims, who, with Margy Stockton, have spent many years helping her medically, financially, and spiritually and spent many final hours at Hospice with Wanda in her last days. Thanks also to the medical professionals and the staff at Hubbard Hospice House; Tiskawah Adult Day Care (that she loved!); the staff at CAMC Memorial Hospital, West Virginia Senior Services, and her many physicians and nurses who cared for her through the years, and especially her pastors and friends at Oakwood Baptist Church. Wanda is now with our Lord in heaven. May God bless her for all she has done for all of us. Burial will follow in the French Cemetery, Berry Hills Drive, Charleston. on December 27, 2014.2
