Tuesday following an illness of six months. Mrs. Kollar was born Nov. 20, 1874, in Donaldson, Ind. She spent most of her life in South Bend. She married James Kollar here in 1892. Besides the husband, she is survived by four sons, Stephen A. and Walter E., both of Mishawaka, and Melbin and Lawrence, both of Edwardsburg, Mich; two daughters, Dollie M. Badman and Mary A. Reser, both of South Bend; a sister Mrs. S. A. Uncapher, Grovertown, Ind., and 15 grandchildren. Burial will be in the Southlawn cemetery. on January 16, 1945.2 She died on January 16, 1945 at Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, at age 70.4,2

Also surviving are four daughters, Dorothy Gemmer and Marilyn Potts, both of Mishawaka, Ida Belle Haughee of Granger and Jo Anne Carrico of South Bend; a son, Albert of Chicago; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dollie Badman of South Bend. Entombment will be in Riverview Cemetery. He was a life member of the former American Legion Post 284 where he served as past commander. He was also a member of South Bend Barracks 829 of World War Veterans and Clay Twp. Lions Club, served as past American Legion Third District Commander and was active with American Legion Junior Baseball. on June 7, 1984.7 He died on June 7, 1984 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, at age 86.3,17,18

     Ruth Ann Kollar was buried at Highland Cemetery, 2257 Portage Avenue, South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.3,4 She was born on December 19, 1896 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.3,6 As of April 4, 1920,her married name was Bell.2 She married William Bell on April 4, 1920 at St. Joseph Co., Indiana.2,3 Ruth Ann Kollar Mrs. and Mrs. William Bell, aged 48 and 40, respectively, managers of the cafeteria in the Twin Branch plant of Indiana & Michigan Electric company of Mishawaka, were injured fatally at 6:30 o'clock this morning when their automobile was struck a westbound Grand Trunk Western passenger train at the East Jefferson boulevard crossing in Mishawaka. They resided at box No. 550 rural route No. 5. Mrs. Bell was killed instantly and Mr. Bell died en route to St. Joseph hospital, Mishawaka, in the Mishawaka city ambulance. Both bodies were badly crushed. Mr. Bell was at, the wheel of the car the couple was driving work at the plant cafeteria; which they had managed for the last six years. Electric warning lights on sides of the crossing. were operating properly, according to railroad officials. Samuel Bates, 74, of 510 East Jefferson boulevard, who was painting a house near the scene of the mishap, was an eye-witness to the crash. He said the Bell car was traveling at a "terrific" rate of speed and was evidently attempting to "beat" the train. The car was thrown only a few feet from the crossing but was wrecked. Clark A. Lang, of Battle Creek, Mich., engineer, brought the train to a stop 400 yards from crossing. William Elliott, of Kalamazoo, Mich., was the conductor in charge of the train. Deputy Coroner H. H. Rodin, who was called to investigate the fatality, indicated would return a verdict of accidental death. However, a formal inquest will be held. Mrs. Bell was born in South Bend Dec. 19, 1896, and spent all her life in this vicinity. She leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Kollar, this city; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Badman and Mrs. William Reeser, both of this city, and four brothers Stephen Kollar, of Mishawaka; Melvin and Walter Kollar, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Lawrence Kollar, of this city. Mr. Bell was born in England Oct. 14, 1888, and came to this country many years ago. He was married to Miss Ruth Kollar 18 years ago in this city. He is survived by his parents in England. on May 7, 1937.6 She died on May 7, 1937 at Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, at age 40.3

He was a member of the Masonic lodge and Royal Order of the Moose, Knox, and the Scottish Rite in South Bend. The Knox Masons will assist at the funeral services. on April 17, 1952.5

She was born in Lakeville, Ind., to James Horace and Emaline Rose (Day) Kollar, one of eight children. On April 13, 1924, in St. Joseph, Michigan, she married E. Frank Badman, who died April 8, 1976. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Ruth Harringer of Mishawaka, Beverly Clark McClone (Jake) of Mentone and Sherrilyne Fuller (David) of Seattle, Washington. Her son, Edward James Badman, and infant daughter, Olive Mary, preceded her in death. She has seven grandchildren, Edward J. Badman (Vickie), Craig Badman (Sandy), Michael Badman (Deb), Robert Harringer (Kathy), David Harringer, Pattie Lea Dillinger and Heather Lynne Fuller; 15 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Dollie was devoted to her family and spent many happy years at the family vacation home in Rush Lake, Michigan. She loved gardening, especially her beautiful roses, and treasured the many pets who shared her home over the years. Dollie was a longtime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Mishawaka, and its oldest member. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Burial took place at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. on September 15, 2005.6

On August 24, 1946 in South Bend, Dorothy and Jack Martin Gemmer were united in marriage. They enjoyed 67 years together until Jack's passing on June 17, 2014. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Gemmer on July 22, 1986; a sister, Betty Hosier; and two brothers, Albert & Robert Kollar. Dorothy worked for Indiana & Michigan Electric Company, Nyloncraft, was a bookkeeper at Simplex and was the owner-operator of The Donut Shop on Lincolnway East in Mishawaka. She and Jack were also the former owners of Gemmer Parcel Delivery. Dorothy was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #2083, Mishawaka. Mrs. Gemmer is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Daniel) Pullum of Diamond Lake, MI and Lori (Brett) Bishop of South Bend, IN; two sons, James (Nancy) Gemmer of Mishawaka, IN and Larry (Patricia) Gemmer of North Liberty, IN. Also surviving are six grandchildren, John (Mary) Gemmer, Tina Rowe, Adam (Heather) Gemmer, Andy Gemmer, Joshua Sedam, and Jennifer Sedam, six step-grandchildren, and twenty one great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters, Ida Belle (Don) Haughee of Granger, IN, JoAnne (Bill) Duncan of Lakeville, IN and Marilyn (Paul) Potts of Diamond Lake, MI. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. on September 27, 2014.2

Reed, 61 years old, who spent virtually all her life in and near South Bend, died yesterday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. L. Amelia Bego, 925 North Chester street, after an illness of a few days. She came to this city three weeks ago. Burial will be in Washington Park cemetery. Mrs. Reed was born near Lakeville. She was a member of the Disciples of Christ church. Survivors are the daughter, two sons, Kenneth Reed and Claude Reed, both of South Bend, and one grandchild. Her husband, Frank Reed, a section foreman for the Pennsylvania railroad and employe of the line for thirty years, died in 1920. on May 3, 1935.2

     William Bell was buried at Highland Cemetery, 2257 Portage Avenue, South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.3 He was born on October 14, 1888 at England.3 He married Ruth Ann Kollar, daughter of James Horace Kollar and Emma Rose Day, on April 4, 1920 at St. Joseph Co., Indiana.1,3 William Bell Mrs. and Mrs. William Bell, aged 48 and 40, respectively, managers of the cafeteria in the Twin Branch plant of Indiana & Michigan Electric company of Mishawaka, were injured fatally at 6:30 o'clock this morning when their automobile was struck a westbound Grand Trunk Western passenger train at the East Jefferson boulevard crossing in Mishawaka. They resided at box No. 550 rural route No. 5. Mrs. Bell was killed instantly and Mr. Bell died en route to St. Joseph hospital, Mishawaka, in the Mishawaka city ambulance. Both bodies were badly crushed. Mr. Bell was at, the wheel of the car the couple was driving work at the plant cafeteria; which they had managed for the last six years. Electric warning lights on sides of the crossing. were operating properly, according to railroad officials. Samuel Bates, 74, of 510 East Jefferson boulevard, who was painting a house near the scene of the mishap, was an eye-witness to the crash. He said the Bell car was traveling at a "terrific" rate of speed and was evidently attempting to "beat" the train. The car was thrown only a few feet from the crossing but was wrecked. Clark A. Lang, of Battle Creek, Mich., engineer, brought the train to a stop 400 yards from crossing. William Elliott, of Kalamazoo, Mich., was the conductor in charge of the train. Deputy Coroner H. H. Rodin, who was called to investigate the fatality, indicated would return a verdict of accidental death. However, a formal inquest will be held. Mrs. Bell was born in South Bend Dec. 19, 1896, and spent all her life in this vicinity. She leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Kollar, this city; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Badman and Mrs. William Reeser, both of this city, and four brothers Stephen Kollar, of Mishawaka; Melvin and Walter Kollar, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Lawrence Kollar, of this city. Mr. Bell was born in England Oct. 14, 1888, and came to this country many years ago. He was married to Miss Ruth Kollar 18 years ago in this city. He is survived by his parents in England. on May 7, 1937.4 He died on May 7, 1937 at Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, at age 48.3,4

She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ida Belle Grant of Bradenton, FL, and Miriam Wardlow of Logansport, IN. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. on May 31, 2009.3

Donald lived in the Michiana area for most of his life. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army. After serving in the military, Donald moved back to Michiana and worked at Bendix Corporation for 34 years before retiring in 1988. Donald loved working outside and took great pride in his lawn. He also loved any chance he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Along with his loving wife, Ida, Donald is survived by his daughter, Amy (David) Young of Baroda, MI; sons, Steve (Deborah) Haughee of Osceola, IN; Bill (Samantha Karacson) Haughee of Niles, MI; Paul J.      Jo Anne Kollar Jo Anne Duncan, age 82, of Plymouth, IN passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, November 18, 2024. Jo Anne was born on July 30, 1942, to the late Stephen A Kollar and Hazel B Stevens in Mishawaka, IN. She attended Washington-Clay High School graduating with the class of 1960. Jo Anne loved her family. She took pride in her children and grandchildren, always happy to visit or willing to help in any way she could. Jo Anne was a loyal and proud employee of 25 years in the accounting department at Notre Dame. She closely followed the Irish while employed and after her retirement in 2008. On November 9, 2002, she wed Bill and together they enjoyed antique collecting, gardening, and travel. Jo Anne had a passion for all holidays, especially Christmas. She and Bill would decorate beautifully indoors and out. She will be greatly missed this holiday season and always. Jo Anne is survived by her husband, Bill Duncan of Plymouth, IN; son, Mark (Julie) Carrico of Fort Wayne, IN; step daughter, Beth (Alan) Marohn of Plymouth, IN; six grandchildren, Collin Holdread, Haidyn, Emery and Luca Carrico, Brooke and Jordan Marohn; sisters, Ida Belle Haughee of Mishawaka, IN, and Marilyn Potts of Edwardsburg, MI along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. Jo Anne was preceded in death by her daughter, Angela (Carrico) Holdread, stepdaughter Michelle Duncan, brothers Bob and Albert Kollar, sister Dorthy Gemmer. Jo Anne’s passing leaves a void in the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known her.      Paul Edward Potts Paul E. Potts, 72, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020, in Mishawaka. He attended Mishawaka High School and proudly served our country in the United States Army. He married Marilyn E. (Kollar) Potts on June 2, 1973. She survives and resides in their home in Edwardsburg, Michigan. Paul was born on July 2, 1948, to William E. Potts and Vennice E. (Meyer) Potts. He is survived by a sister, Patricia Potts from Niles, Michigan. Paul was a sales representative in the manufactured housing industry. He has resided in Mishawaka, South Bend, and Wolcottville, Indiana, as well as Diamond Lake and Edwardsburg, Michigan. Paul enjoyed time with outdoor activities with his wife and friends. Snowmobiling on Drummond Island and Paradise Island in northern Michigan, scuba diving in the Virgin Islands, and fishing were among his favorite sporting activities. Paul was an active member in the Diamond Divers Club. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, Indiana.4 He was buried at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, 375 W.      Lois June Huffman was buried at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, 375 W. Cleveland Road, Granger, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.1,5 She Lois June Kollar, 94, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019 at Heritage Point Assisted Living, Mishawaka, IN. Lois was born on August 13, 1924 to the late Ralph and Delores (Maggert) Huffman. Lois was a lifetime resident of South Bend. On March 3, 1950 in LaPorte, Indiana she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Kollar and they enjoyed 32 years of her marriage until his passing in 1982 at the age of 58. Lois attended John Adams High School, class of 1943. Immediately after high school she began working at Ball Band until the birth of their first son. Later working at the Barrel Restaurant, Rouch’s Eating House and Mike’s Restaurant, retiring from Martin’s Supermarket. All of these positions allowed her to share her expressive bubbly personality with those she encountered. Lois had the best and biggest garden in the neighborhood and absolutely loved all kinds of flowers. Yellow mini roses were her favorite. If she wasn’t basking in the sun or working in her garden, you knew she would be with her friends; Sis, Pat and Betty. They enjoyed visiting the casino and traveling to Las Vegas several times a year. Lois was an avid traveler and had visited several countries in her lifetime. She was the most gracious host, opening her home to many parties and reunions that were enjoyed by family and friends. She will be dearly missed by her little acts of kindness, her bright smile and her fashionista style of matching clothing and accessories. Lois is survived by her children, John (Pam) Kollar and Thomas (Julie) Kollar of South Bend; 3 grandchildren: Mindy (Larry) Stevens of Lexington Park, MD, Ian Kollar of South Bend, and Christy (Jared) Hopewell of Woodstock, GA. Great-grandchildren: Oliver and Natalie Stevens of Lexington Park, MD, Mallory Hopewell, twins: Reid and Norah Hopewell and baby girl Hopewell due any day, all of Woodstock, GA. Sisters: Sandi (Dan) Sherry of Austin, TX, Sharon (Walter) Stump of South Bend, IN. Sister in laws: Betty Huffman of Mishawaka, IN, Nora Huffman of Las Vegas, NV, IdaBelle (Don) Haughee of Granger, IN, JoAnne (Bill) Duncan of Elkhart, IN, Marilyn (Paul) Potts of Edwardsburg, MI. In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by her brothers, Jack Huffman and James Huffman; in-laws Betty Hosier, Albert Kollar and Jack and Dorothy Gemmer. The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Heritage Point Assisted Living Center for their loving care.
