He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Wayne Via and India Donahue Schell. Charles is survived by his sister, Dianna Via-Dapena; children, David W. Via, Shannon Law and husband Paul, Stephanie Guercin and husband Richard; grandchildren, Jessica, Bailey, Jaylen, Jena, Hannah, and Vincent; as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Papi was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a patriot and a gardener. He was funny, stern but fair, and a go getter. He was a rock to his family. He helped anyone in need and was loved by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, Gumersindo Sotelos, and his mother, Rosa Perez. A native of St. Paul, Va., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Mrs. Elizabeth A. Morgan and the wife of Melvin Maurice Terry. She has made her home here for the past three years. Mrs. Terry was a member of the Richland Presbyterian church, Richland, Va. Besides her husband she is survived step-daughter, Mrs. J. W. Deyerle of Roanoke; two step-sons, Luther E. and William M. Terry, both of Roanoke; and four brothers, Henry L. Morgan and Lacy Morgan, both of Hamilton, Ohio; and J. A. Morgan and B. J. Morgan, both of Richland. Interment will take place in Sherwood Burial Park, Roanoke. on May 10, 1949.³ She died on May 10, 1949 at Portsmouth, Virginia, at age 46.^2,4,3

She was the widow of Luther E. Terry and a member of Bethany Christian Church. Surviving are two sons, Phillip Luther (Chip) Terry of Oxnard, Calif; Donald F. Terry, Charlotte, N.C; one daughter, Bonnie L. Terry, Santa Barbara, Calif; two sisters, Mrs. Janie P. Wheeler, Roanoke; Mrs. Virginia P. Jones, Roanoke; one brother, Wade H. Pollard, Short Hills, N.J; sister-in-law, Mrs. Geraldine Deyerle, Salem; three grandchildren, Sally Terry, Robert Terry, and Phillip Terry. He was predeceased by his parents, Luther and Helen Pollard Terry. Surviving are his wife, Pamela Patton Terry; son, Phillip R. Terry of Stokesdale, N.C; sister, Bonnie Terry of Santa Barbara, Calif; brother, Phillip L. Terry; aunts, Janie Pollard Wheeler and Geraldine Wheeler both of Roanoke; nephew, Robert "Bo" Terry of Roanoke; and two step sons, Michael Parris and Thomas Scott Parris. She retired as a shipping clerk with Naval Supply Center and was a charter member of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church, Virginia Beach. She was the widow of Elvin E. Terry and was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Terry and Rodney Terry. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Survivors include four daughters, Jeanne Terry Pierce, Shirley Terry Jackson, Janet Terry White, all of Virginia Beach, and Phyllis Terry Harris of Norfolk; a sister, Virginia Bowman of Staunton, Va; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. on January 2, 1994.⁴

Jeanne was predeceased by her husband, Roy Pierce and a grandson, Charlie Brooks. Left to cherish her memory are two children, Linda Brooks and her husband Charles of Smithfield and Michael Pierce and his wife Sharon of Huddleston; four grandchildren, Kristen Brooks, Laura Brooks Owney, Joshua Brooks, Jessie Pierce; four great-grandchildren, Sydney Brooks, Breanna Brooks, Gracie Owney, and Kenly Owney; and two sisters, Shirley Jackson and Phyllis West. Entombment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. on January 15, 2010.⁴

According to investigating officers in South Norfolk, where the accident occurred. Terry was a passenger in a car allegedly operated by George Maylor Cahoon, Jr., 22, of Norfolk. The car struck a utility pole on the right side of the street at the Virginia Railway crossing near Green street. The pole was snapped by the impact of the crash and the automobile is said to be a total loss. Police said today that the car was going at a high speed when the operator lost control and struck the pole. Cahoon Was held on a charge of manslaughter under $2,000 bond and his preliminary hearing has been set for July 26, according, to South Norfolk police. Young Terry, a native of Roanoke, has lived in Norfolk for the past 11 years. He is survived by his wife, Jane Ashworth Terry; his parents, Elzin, and Gladys Hichman Terry, and one son, Donald Wade Terry. Other survivors include four sisters, Mrs. R. N. Pierce, Mrs. L. W. Copeland, Miss Janet Terry, all of Norfolk, and Mrs. J. T. Samonte of National City, Calif; one brother, Kenneth Rodney Terry, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Laura Terry, of Roanoke. on July 20, 1954.⁷ He died on July 20, 1954 at Norfolk, Virginia, at age 21.^2,3,4,7
