Newby and wife, Malinda, of Chatham;two grandchildren, Kimberly and Justin Crane; two step- daughters, Vickie Porterfield and friend Randy Dalton and Brenda Brannock; one step-son, Johnny Slaughter and wife, Debra; five step-grandchildren, Melissa Schultz and husband, Kenneth, Scott Porterfield, Brandi Van Der Hyde and friend, Jonathan Taylor, Britni Motley and husband, Adam, and John Lewis Slaughter; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakland United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jon Woodburn officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence. Scott Funeral Home in Chatham is serving the Newby family. on October 1, 2013.⁵
