Mackey of Orange, Va., and Stephen Mackey and wife, Sherry, of Nashville, Tenn; and two grandchildren, Leo M. Mackey and Ava Jane Mackey of Nashville, Tenn. Charles Douglas Mackey, 11, died at Greenbrier Valley Hospital in Ronceverte following the 10:30 a.m. accident on W.Va. 21 near Maxwelton. Mackey and another youth were riding bicycles on a side road when Mackey turned onto the highway and was struck by a pickup truck, according to the accident report. No charges were filed against the driver of the truck, the spokesman said. on May 19, 1985.³

     Vivian Lorene Lewis Vivian Lorene Free, Sep 16, 1927 - Feb 12, 2021. Vivian Lorene (Lewis) Free, 93, of Hebron, passed away Friday morning, February 12, 2021 at her home. Lorene was a retired Registered Nurse for the former St. Luke Hospital, Fort Thomas. She volunteered for many years for the Salvation Army, attended Florence United Methodist Church and she enjoyed gardening and restoring small antique objects. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Free in 1977; her parents, Elmer Dale and Nannie Belle Ratliff Lewis; and her siblings, Helen Ruark, Hazel Faulkner, Carla Lewis, Dorothy Hunter and James Lewis. Surviving is her daughter, Karen (David) Kitz; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and a host of extended family members.⁴ She was buried at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery, 3090 Limaburg Road, Hebron, Boone Co., Kentucky.^4,8 Her married name was Free.⁴ She married Robert Edward Free.⁴ Vivian Lorene Lewis was born on September 16, 1927 at Kaymoor, Fayette Co., West Virginia.^3,9,4 She died on February 12, 2021 at Hebron, Boone Co., Kentucky, at age 93.⁴

     Hazel Dale Lewis was buried at Lewis County Memory Gardens, Vanceburg, Lewis Co., Kentucky.³ She Mrs. Hazel Dale Lewis Faulkner, age 86, of Maysville, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday afternoon, August 18, 2016, at the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Maysville, Kentucky. She was born November 30, 1929, in Beckley, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Elmer Dale and Nannie Belle Ratliff Lewis. Hazel was a member of the Vanceburg Christian Church and the Vanceburg Historical Society. She enjoyed traveling and reading. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Orah Faulkner; one brother, Elmer "Buddy" Lewis; and one sister, Helen Ruark. Hazel is survived by three sisters, Lorene Free of Hebron, Kentucky, Carla Lewis of Florence, Kentucky, and Dorothy Hunter of Vanceburg, Kentucky; two special nieces who cared for her during her sickness, Patsy Lewis and Carolyn Kinney; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her. She was a member of New Hope Ministries, Cincinnati. Carla was a retired LPN with Deaconess Hospital and enjoyed playing the dulcimer and reading. She was preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Nannie Belle Ratliff Lewis; sisters, Helen and Hazel and brother, James. Survivors include sisters, Lorene Free and Dorothy Hunter and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside service at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery, Hebron, KY. on February 18, 2018.³

     Dorothy Lee Lewis Dorothy Lee Lewis Hunter - A daughter of the late Elmer Dale Lewis and Nannie Belle Ratliff Lewis, Dottie has been reunited in heaven with her husband, Howard David Hunter, who passed away July 11, 1981. In addition to Dave and her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer "Buddy" Lewis and three sisters, Hazel Faulkner, Carla Lewis and Helen Ruark. Her greatest joy in life were her four boys! She loved to recall all the things that boys do and how much she loved being their mom. She was a fiercely loyal and loving. She is survived by Jeffrey A. Hunter of Portsmouth, Brian & Crystal Hunter of West Portsmouth, Rusty & Lisa Hunter of Circleville, and Kelly & Cathy Hunter of Sciotoville; one sister, Loreen Free of Hebron, KY; seven grandsons, 6 step-granddaughters, and a host of great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Dottie was a member of the Vanceburg Christian Church and Vanceburg Historical Society. She enjoyed making "corn cuddlers" to keep us all warm and soothe our aches away. She declared her affection through poetry and was an avid reader of the Bible. Word puzzles were never in short supply around Mama Dot. And at the last, she was serenaded home by Bluegrass and Gospel music, her favorites.      Mabel Cheek Mabel Lewis, 85, of Ironton, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Kings Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Mrs. Lewis was born December 2, 1932, in Ashland, Kentucky, a daughter to the late Walter and Ella (Unrue) Cheek. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Lewis on May 4, 1977. Mrs. Lewis attended South Point Schools and was a cook for Rock Hill Local School retiring in 2000, after 40 years of service. In addition, to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son-in-law: Michael Petty. She is survived by two sons, James "Mike" (Diane) Lewis of Gresham, Oregon and Raymond (Drema) Lewis of Ironton, Ohio; two daughters, Yvonne Petty of Columbus, Ohio and Sheila (Mike) Kidd of Ironton, Ohio; longtime boyfriend, Kenneth Rose of Ironton, Ohio; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.² Her married name was Lewis.² She married James Edward Lewis, son of Elmer Dale Lewis and Nannie Belle Ratliff.² Mabel Cheek was born on December 2, 1932 at Ashland, Boyd Co., Kentucky.^1,2 She died on May 9, 2018 at Ashland, Boyd Co., Kentucky, at age 85.²
